Skincare Routine for Acne Prone Skin – Glam Radar

by Jane · March 29, 2015

Hey! It’s been a few days. I’ve had quite the bit of homework and things to do so I haven’t spent a ton of time here. SO! I wanted to share my skincare routine with you guys!

I think a skin care routine is an important step in anyone’s daily routine.

I remember when I was younger, like in middle school, even high school I pretty much never washed my face. Rarely. When I did I just used the St Ives Apricot scrub or something.
I basically did nothing for my skin. I had acne too but it wasn’t horrible, surprisingly haha.

Anyways, so about 2-3 years ago I started getting skincare routines.

Well I had great skin, it was pretty much flawless, besides some bumps on my forehead and the occasional breakout. I can owe that all to my little miracle child. Found out I was pregnant with her 8 months into it. After having her, my skin started getting bad. It became very oily, I broke out a lot, lots of little bumps, I had more and more acne scarring, etc.

So I began experimenting with different routines.

This is my current routine and it’s been helping, however I still have a huge amount of acne scarring and breakouts here and there, so as a whole, it’s not a miracle worker but individually, they’re great products. Continue reading to hear about my thoughts on each :]

Daily Routine:
Extra Virgin Olive Oil:
I use this to remove my eye makeup, it’s natural, it removes it all and conditions your eyelashes and skin. Although it does sting your eyes a bit and can make you see blurry for little, because you’re using oil, but it’s safe.

Mark. Help Wanted Anti-Acne Exfoliating Cleanser: I LOVE THIS. Never have I found a better cleanser than this. It’s creamy, it gently exfoliates and it never dries my skin out. My acne has healed a lot because of this and the smell is so yummy, no artificial fragrances, just from the ingredients. It does an amazing job at cleansing the skin and I recommend this to anyone who has acne.
(Sponge: This is a sponge from EcoTools, I use this every few days to add extra exfoliation to my cleanser)

Witch Hazel:
I use this as my astringent. It’s natural and removes excess dirt and oil without the drying of alcohol. It has a rather unpleasant smell, but it works, so that’s all that matters. It’s affordable, natural and can be found in any drugstore.

Mark. Matte Chance Mattifying Lotion: This has changed my life. I used to use the Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture SPF 15?? I hated it, it felt heavy and greasy. Then I used Mark. For Goodness Face and it broke me out and made me feel a bit greasy throughout the day, so it’s much more for drier skin. Then I tried Mark. See Things Clearly and that was good, but being discontinued.

So then I bought this one and oh my goodness, I NEVER have to worry about oil anymore. It mattifies my skin all day without drying my skin. I just have soft matte skin and it even helps me apply my makeup a lot better.

So that is my daily routine for day and night

Now for the special stuff!

Okay, so every now and then I add different products to my routine for different needs.

When I’m breaking out a lot or have a big bump on my face, I use 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Gel. This is from Target, the Up&Up brand. It works, it’s not my favorite but it’s what’s worked.

When I’m breaking out a lot of just need a change, I’ll mix Baking Soda with water & form a paste. I can either use it as a spot treatment, exfoliator or my preference, a mask. You can just feel it working. It helps to balance the PH in your skin and exfoliate. Then when you rinse, your skin is buttery soft. I LOVE IT.

If I feel like I’ve done a ton to my eyes, I’ll use my Mark. Get Defensive SPF 15 Eye Cream to really hydrate the delicate skin around my eyes. Also, this can be used to lighten dark spots and as much as I complain about my acne scars, I never stick to using this on my skin, because I can’t use it during the day, since it’s so rich and I have oily skin.

Sometimes I feel like I just need some type of rich moisture. So only at night, I’ll put some of this Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil on my skin and rub it in. I’ve never broken out from it and it smells nice. It’s very moisturizing and perfect for people with dry or mature skin. This is a sample size, it’s lasted a while. I believe you can only purchase this on QVC now.

So that’s my skincare stuff. It’s very simple, lots of natural things you can easily buy at your local store.

I think it’s an important thing to invest in a good skincare routine and find what works for your skin.
