Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains – Review, Swatches, Wear Test – Glam Radar

by Jane · March 17, 2015

Revlon really knows how to sell a product seeing as this is the second most hyped product of 2012 in the beauty industry created by Revlon. Though different than the Revlon Lip Butters (and thus appealing to a different audience), will this surpass the performance of the Lip Butters? *Note: I am not that fond of the Lip Butters because long wearing lip colors, like these, are more suited for my needs. revlon-just-bitten-kissable-balm-stains-review-swatches-wear-test-500x281-1 revlon-just-bitten-kissable-balm-stains-500x281-1 The Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains are sold around $7-$10 depending location and retailer. I purchased mine for $9.50 originally at CVS but with coupons/sales, paid a little less than $2.50 each for these. These come in .095oz which is comparable in size to the Tarte LipSurgence Lip Stains (.1oz for $24) and the Clinque Chubby Sticks (.1oz for $16). PIGMENTATION: 4/5
TEXTURE: 4/5
LONGEVITY: 5/5
OVERALL: 4.5/5 THE GOOD:

  • Long lasting (up to 8 hrs)
  • Fades evenly
  • Does not feather
  • Great shade selection

THE BAD:

  • Applies unevenly
  • A little tacky/thick
  • Settles into lip lines a little
  • Drying over time
  • Difficult to remove stain

Bottom Line: If you’re willing to sacrifice a little time for a flawless application and some moisture on your lips for 8 hour wear then you’ll love these! If you want moisture or love changing your lipstick shade often..this might not be for you.

OVERALL – There are a lot of negatives to this product: drying after 2-3 hours, slippery and sometimes uneven application (I fix this by applying it slanted to the side as opposed to the tip for a quicker, more even coverage), and settles into lip lines after 2 hours. The positives are their buildable pigmentation (1-2 layers will give a more sheer finish but 3-4 will give rich glossy color), fades evenly throughout the day, no feathering, and its longevity (up to 6 hours for lighter colors, 8-9 hours for darker colors). The lasting power of this product redeems most of its negatives because even through lunch, dinner, snacks, and a work out, Charm lasted 5-6 hours and Romantic and Sweetheart lasted 8-9 hours *check the Wear Test for more details* Sadly, the lighter colors stain to a midtone pink “stain” color as opposed to the color in the tube. It’s a bit tacky when glossy but after 3-4 hours, a non-tacky non-glossy transfer resistant stain is left. The product itself smells of peppermint which translates to a slight tingly feeling. All in all, I love this product solely due to its longevity and ability to not dry my lips as severely as other long wearing products.

Recommended? Only for those who want a stain as opposed to a lip balm or hydrating lipstick. This is more moisturizing than other lip stains but feels a bit drying on the lips after 2-3 hours of wear.

Fun fact! The Revlon Balm Stains come in 12 shades whereas the Clinque Chubby Sticks come in 16 shades and the Tarte Lip Surgences come in 8 shades.

Tip! Next time you want longevity in other lipsticks, simply apply a few layers of a matching Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain underneath so that once the lipstick color fades, you’ll still have the lip stain left. This is perfect for lighter lipstick colors or moisturizing lipsticks that tend to fade away quickly.

1) Charm (warm light peach) – A stunning peachy pink that’s perfect for a natural everyday look. The color is one of my favorites but unfortunately this applies more of a pink than a peach. 2) Sweetheart (deep fuchsia) – This applies darker on the lips than on the hands and is a gorgeous fuchsia on the lips.  *Similar to Revlon Lip Butter in Lollipop but more wearable. 3) Romantic (warm tomato red) – This rich red is the perfect pin-up red and I am especially thrilled to wear this color more underneath other reds to increase their longevity.

revlon-just-bitten-kissable-balm-stains-wear-test-500x413-1After 2 hours, the color still looks freshly applied but the center of my lips start feeling a little dry and the product has settled into the lip lines a little. The product does not settle into the lip lines any further and my lip never look dry. 4 hours is when the glossy finish and tackiness fades away but the color stays vibrant on the lips until 6 hours. The stain is almost gone around the 8-9 hour mark in which case a lip balm application is much needed
