MeMeMe Beats the Blues Highlighters Review – Glam Radar

by Maria · May 27, 2014

As you may have seen from my post on MeMeMe’s Poppy Tint, the brand has developed some products that bear more than a passing similarity to those you find on Benefit counters. Here is my review MeMeMe Beats the Blues Highlighters !

These 2 highlighters are clearly modelled on Benefit’s Moon Beam and High Beam. As with Poppy Tint, they are packaged in the same Benefit style packaging with the brush (and again, they are 11ml as opposed to Benefit’s 12ml) although the packaging looks a lot cheaper than the Benefit highlighters. That said, they are only £2.50 at Superdrug at the moment instead of £17.50 for High Beam or Moon Beam.

Beat the Blues comes in 2 shades- Sunbeam which is a golden shade similar to Benefit’s Moon Beam and Moonbeam which is confusingly a similar shade to Benefit’s High Beam. I’ve found them to be less pigmented to the Benefit highlighters and Moonbeam is considerably thinner in consistency to High Beam. The picture below shows how much product is on the wand when it was brand new. In the bottle, Moonbeam is a considerably lighter pink than High Beam and looks quite sickly sweet but once applied it’s a lovely shade and doesn’t look as cheap.

You can see from the picture below that Sunbeam is a lot thicker in consistency from the amount on the wand.

When using either one, I layer them to get the highlight I’m after as they don’t shimmer as much as I would like. Using them in this way means that I’m going through them twice as quickly but they are pretty cheap.

I know that the Benefit counter girls say that Moon Beam and High Beam can be mixed with your moisturiser or foundation and used to give your whole face a glow but I find that a bit too much, given how shimmery they are. The Beat the Blues highlighters are better for this purpose as they are more subtle but I’d only very occasionally use them in this way.

For that reason I’d say that these can be used for a different purpose to High Beam and Moon Beam and you could probably make use of all 4 in your kit, but I personally will be using up the last of my High Beam and making the swap to Beat the Blues. They cost me £2.50 each instead of £17.50 for the Benefit highlighters so I don’t mind using them up more quickly.

There are still a couple of MeMeMe products that I’m looking to try so watch out for future reviews!
