My MAC Lipstick Collection – Glam Radar

by Jane · March 19, 2015

Welcome to the very first post of “Lippie Sunday”. I wanted to start it off with one of the most talked about lipsticks and the one with the most selection: MAC Lipsticks.

MAC Lipsticks retail for $14.50 at any MAC counter, free standing store, or maccosmetics.com. They come in 7 different formulations (from sheer-most pigmented): Glaze, Lustre, Cremesheen, Frost, Satin, Amplified Creme, and Matte.

Glaze – glossy finish, low pigmentation, low longevity
Lustre – cream finish, low-medium pigmentation, low-medium longevity
Frost – Shimmery/Metallic, medium pigmentation, medium longevity
Cremesheen – cream finish, medium pigmentation, medium longevity, creamy
Amplified Creme Рcream finish, high pigmentation, high longevity, creamy
Satin – shine, high pigmentation, high longevity, drying
Matte – no shine, high pigmentation, high longevity, semi-drying

Least favorite finishes: Glaze (accentuates dryness), Frost (shimmery), Satin (drying)
Most favorite finishes: Cremesheen (pigmented, creamy), Amplified Creme (extremely pigmented and creamy)

I own 11 lipsticks, 9 of which will be covered in this post (for the remaining 2, check out this post). Aside from the cremesheens and amplified cremes, MAC lipsticks aren’t a must-have for me since I love my drugstore lipsticks too.

1. Myth (satin/ pinky beige)– pigmented, long lasting, but drying nude lipstick. Suits light-light/medium skintones or could be used as a lipstick base. Lips definitely need to be prepped prior to application. Not moisturizing (add a gloss for moisture) but great for clubbing (sweaty, crowded environment). If you want a long wearing nude, this is perfect.

Only downside is the creamsheen formulation is really creamy, tends to melt, and needs occasional reapplication. mac-creme-d-nude 3. Hue (glaze/ sheer pinky nude) – The shade is gorgeous – a pinky nude that’s more wearable than Myth and Creme d’ Nude but still in the ‘flesh toned’ family. However, the glaze formulation makes this sheer and the more you build it up, the more Hue accentuates dry lips and settles into the lines…not good. It’s also not very long wearing and needs frequent application. I would just avoid this color even though most people rave about it (mainly for its color really).

4) Viva Glam Gaga I (lustre/ blue based baby pink) – applied sheerly it’s gorgeous but applied normally, it’s a shade that works only for few people. It clashes with warm tones and is too light for my NC30¬†complexion. I don’t mind it if I’m going for a bold look but definitely not for everyday. The lustre formula works here. mac-gaga 5) Viva Glam Gaga II (amplified/ warm peachy nude) – darker than MAC Myth but lighter than NYX Circe. If you have medium-dark complexion and think flesh toned lipsticks are too light for you, then this is your perfect nude lip shade. I love all nude lipsticks really but I love this with brown smokey eye or natural eye for a warmer look. mac-gaga-2 6) Creme Cup (cremesheen/ neutral light pink) – Very similar to MAC Angel but not as long wearing and more¬†moisturizing. This color is gorgeous on the lips and creates a very cutesy soft makeup look. Love this for everyday. (Dupe)

7) Shy Girl (cremesheen/ warm pinky peach) – Another great everyday lipstick shade. The more cool you are, the more peach it’ll look. The more warm, the more pink it’ll look. I love this for when I don’t know what lip to wear…(Dupe). mac-shy-girl 8) Vegas Volt (amplified creme/ reddish orange) – I lovee the formulation of amplified cremes. This lipstick is very bold (more subdued than a firetruck red) but it instantly adds drama to a look. I wore it here. mac-vegas-volt 9) Viva Glam Cyndi (lustre/ sheer coral red) – Great everyday red shade. Can be buildable to a deeper red. If you’re scared of red, then this is perfect for you. It’s a great universally flattering shade.
