Beauty Blender Sponge Review – Glam Radar

Beauty Blender Sponge Review : If you saw my recent review of Shu Uemura Face Architect, I mentioned the Beauty Blender really briefly. I thought I’d take this opportunity today to tell you more about it and fill you in on why you need this in your life.

It’s a product that’s been around for a while, but there are a lot of imitations out there. I bought the original one without having tried the cheap copies so I could give you guys a real review of how it performs, without my opinions being discoloured by cheapie fakies.

You can definitely buy the Beauty Blender by itself, but I’m a weird hygiene freak and I wanted a cleaning option so I purchased the Blender Cleanser with it, as part of an easily available deal.

The reason is that I find getting foundation off brushes and sponges to be really difficult – I’ve tried everything, believe me. I’ve even thrown makeup sponges in the wash.

I generally use my fingers to apply foundation for this exact reason but lately I haven’t been 100% happy with the finish so I’ve been buffing and buffing in my foundation with a duo fibre brush like the Sigma F15.

How good is the cleanser? I have to say, it’s excellent. Cleaning it is really straightforward. I just press the ‘pedestal’ down, and it releases a bit of product into the tip. Then I roll a soaking west sponge into the solution, and massage it into the Beauty Blender until it gets soft and foamy. The trick here is to make sure I masssaaaaaage it into the bits that are dirty with foundation. Sometimes I miss a spot so it’s still dirty but my OCD side isn’t terribly bothered with that.

My second concern was that I wanted the sponge to be easy to use and leave a great finish.

My application tips are quite simple. I wet the sponge under cold water, squeezing it until it becomes full and plump. I then apply my foundation to my face in spots – so my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. The way I use the sponge is with a stippling motion – so bouncing, rolling and pressing it over my face, blending the foundation together until it’s covered and blended.

The good thing  about the Beauty Blender is that because I  apply the foundation to my face and not directly the sponge, I can use the pointy tip of the sponge to get into the sides of my nose for example, so everything’s covered.

How good is the finish? Bloody brilliant. It looks like my skin but better. I find the creamier the foundation, the better the Beauty Blender is. The difference in finish is much more noticeable with Shu Uemura Face Architect Creme, but it doesn’t love Make Up Forever HD Foundation as much. It still looks great though.

Downsides? It takes ages to clean. Well, not ages. Like five minutes or so depending on how thorough I’m being. I don’t have that kind of time during the week (last minute? always running late? me? no!) so this is mainly special occasion or weekend product.

If you’re an early riser though or just have more time in the morning than I do, then this is great.

As I said above, I don’t know how the original Beauty Blender compares with its cheaper counterparts, but I’d rather own a real LV than a fake one, so if you’re wondering if I’ll ever invest in a cheapie to compare, there’s your answer.

Is it worth buying? Yes. If you’re after a good, natural finish then absolutely. It’s a fantastic alternative to using a foundation brush or your fingers. It’s by no means an essential product – it’s more of a nice to have – but for a good night out when I’m being photographed, I don’t really know what I did before I had it.

Cost? The Beauty Blender Blender Sponge & Cleanser Kit is available fromKiss and Makeup NY for $35 which is the American RRP. That’s where I bought mine.

They are everywhere though – most of the generalist makeup and beauty retaliers in my Online Shopping Directory stock it. The Beauty Blender website also has an extensive list of retailers, both online and in the USA.

Full Disclosure: As mentioned above, I bought this myself
