Makeup Tutorial: Dramatic Blue and Purple Look – Glam Radar

by Jane · April 20, 2015

It’s been a while since my last tutorial. I’ve been wanting to do one for ages but something always comes up or sometimes I’m just not fortunate enough to get a good lighting. It’s a lot of work putting this kinda post together, but I enjoy it. I hope I can post tutorials more often in the future. Any request, perhaps?

The following look is a blunt “cut-crease” type of look. I rarely practice this technique (since I normally don’t go out with this kinda makeup on) so I’m sorry if it’s crappy. I like how dramatic (borderline drag queen-ish) this look turned out, though. I think it’s great for clubbing/partying.

On a hair-related note, I got side swept bangs! It’s a breath of fresh air despite of the fact that it can be a bitch to manage sometimes. I also got my hair dyed at the salon using my own store-bought hair dye. This time the black came out really nice and even. I used L’oreal Excellence in Natural Black. I forgot to photograph the box and stuff, though. frownie-1
For this look I used my 88 matte palette and another eyeshadow by Urban Decay called Sellout. Sellout is a basic shimmery highlight color so it’s very substitutable.

1. First off, prime your eyes and apply a black base on your lid. I’m using Urban Decay Primer Potion and NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Black Bean.primer-base 2. Blend it out. You can use either a brush or your finger.

3. Apply purple eyeshadow (#1) on top of the black base. As you can see, I put a tape there to get that straight, smooth line on the edge.

4. Dip a damp slanted eyeliner brush into black eyeshadow (#2) and draw a line along your crease.

5. Take a fluffy eyeshadow brush and blend it a bit. You don’t need to be very precise in this step because you can touch up the black line later.

6. Apply the baby blue color (#3) just on top of the black line.

7. Apply a matte highlight color (#5) on your browbone and blend it down to the baby blue color. I took the highlight down to my inner corner.

8. Go over the baby blue color with the aqua blue eyeshadow (#4) then blend it upward.

9. Take a small brush and apply a shimmery highlight color (I use Urban Decay in Sellout) on the inner corner. Also, if you want the black to still stand out (I prefer it that way), touch up the line using black eyeshadow again.

11. Apply a black liquid eyeliner on upper lashline. Curl your lashes and add mascara or fake lashes. I have also filled in my eyebrows in the following pictures.
