As a guy with facial hair I really think it’s important to look after it, I don’t want to look scruffy and I don’t really want it to feel like sandpaper. It’s important not to forget about keeping the hair on your face in just as good condition as the hair on your head, as well as conditioning the skin underneath the hair.  Beard oils/cream is one of the best ways to do this, but the few products on the market can be pretty expensive and sometimes with low quality ingredients.   So, here’s my very own simple recipe for an incredibly moisturising beard oil to help keep your facial hair looking and feeling lovely. It also smells amazing, with a blend of oakmoss and rose your face won’t ever have smelt this good! Why not try making your own shaving cream as well!

  • Almond Oil – This is the main ingredient, it is wonderfully moisturising and excellent on dry skin – this will help keep the skin under your beard hydrated whilst also helping to soften the hairs.
  • Jojoba Oil – (optional) This can be added if you need extra moisture, it is a thicker oil than almond oil, its incredibly softening and helps with blocked pores.
  • Vitamin E – (5 drops) Vitamin E is a great antioxidant, and helps keep skin looking young and radiant. It is another moisturising ingredient to add to the oil and will help increase the strength of individual hair strands whilst helping shine. Vitamin E also promotes hair growth.
  • Rose geranium – (5 drops) This oil is an astringent and antiseptic, helping with ingrown hairs and skin conjestion it is also brightening so will help the skintone beneath your beard. It is only of my favorite essential oils, and doesn’t smell as sweet or floral as a tradition ‘rose’ oil – it has an incredibly soothing smell.
  • Oakmoss – (5 drops) This oil helps with maintaining the moisture and oil balance of the skin helping the balance of the overall mixture, it is also great at helping skin irritation that may be caused by facial hair. Another of my favorite essential oils, Oakmoss smells wonderful! It’s a very woodsy smell with an almost powdery undertone, imagine walking through a dark forest after a storm.
  • Patchouli – (3 drops) Again this oil is great for promoting healing of the skin and helps prevent infection. It adds a deep note to the scent of the mixture, with a earthy – sweet scent.
  • Rosewood – (3 drops) This oil has great regenarting properties and is good on cuts and redness. It has a wonderful sweet wooden aroma with aphrodisiac properties.

All you need to do is combine all of the essential oils into a small dropper bottle (or any bottle really) and then fill the rest of the bottle with almond oil, you can add 20 drops of jojoba oil if you would like a heavier feeling oil but this is up to you.  For a more subtle smell feel free to half the amount of drops for the essential oils.  Once you have combined all of the ingredients together all you need to do is pop the lid onto your bottle and give it a good shake to combine the ingredients.  Dispense two or three drops onto the palm of your hand, rub hands together and then massage the oil into your facial hair. Perfect!
