What’s In My Make Up Bag – Every Day Wear Edition

What's In My Make Up Bag

Everyone has a go to, day to day look when it comes to make up. I always find it really interesting to see what products people use for this because I know your day to day look can differ dramatically to your night out look etc. I spend most of my days at work just now and when I’m not working and just lazing about the house I don’t bother putting anything on my face apart from a bit of moisturizer because, lets face it, I’m a single lady who only wants to sleep and recharge on her days off work – aint no men to impress over this way!

So I guess what I like is a bronzed, kinda glowy look. My skin is quite olivey (olivia…olive, yep, get it out of your system now folks) and my eyes are on the lighter end of the green scale so I like to play that up. For my day to day look I prefer having stand out eyes to stand out lips. My mum always told me you should only ever maximize one feature at a time – eyes or lips – or risk ‘looking like a clown’. I tend to keep out of her way when I’m applying night time make up because when I’m going out with my friends I’m ALL about massive eyes and dark lips – she would probably cry!

Anyway:

It took me a long, long, long long long long long time to find a foundation that I was happy with. I started wearing make up kind of towards the end of my first year at high school (6 years ago now? wow!) and only earlier this year did I discover Bourjois Healthy Mix. It’s gorgeous. I love it. I use color 53 which is the closest color match I’ve ever had. I apply with a soft foundation brush and find that one squirt of this does my whole face because I don’t need a whole lot – I hate the feeling of thick, cakey foundation, especially as I apply a bronzer and powder later on. I actually feel like it keeps my skin feeling nice which is really strange for a foundation. It doesn’t dry me out or grease me out and since using it my skin has stayed super clear which is really cool. Also, it smells awesome.

I’ve tried so many really expensive setting powders and bronzers and to be honest I’m yet to find an upper market product for either of these things that makes me say ‘wow, I love this and do not mind spending this much money on it at all ever’. I’m notoriously thrifty (I love buying things but hate spending money…Hmmm) so I have no problem whatsoever in spending a couple of pound on things like translucent powder and bronzer. I don’t use a lot of it anyway. This 2true translucent powder probably cost me like £1.50 or something out of super drug. I use a tiny bit every day to set my foundation. No ill effects – it’s not sticky or cakey and doesn’t seem to be clogging my pores so no complaints from me! This little bronzing palette is by H&M and was about £2. I actually love it though, it’s so cute! It’s a really nice bronze shade and is shot through with gold shimmer which I adore.

Now this baby is my beauty holy grail. Never have I ever loved a makeup product so much in my entire life. I work in a department store which has a Benefit counter so I get a cheeky staff discount and ohhhhh I would happily just spend all my money down there. Benefit Sun Beam is the ultimate in face highlighting. It’s gorgeous. It gives the perfect bronzy glow to my face and makes me feel like I’m constantly on holiday and looking fabulous. There are so many different ways to wear it too! Usually I’ll just apply it to my cheek bones, brow bones and in my wee cupid’s bow which looks really sweet but recently I’ve just been mixing little into my foundation for an all over bronzed look. Another nice way to use it is to get a dry blusher brush and just stipple it on to your face that way. So cute! I love you Sun Beam!

This was my favorite Christmas present last year. I ADORE it. Naked eye shadow Palette by Urban Decay genuinely has the most gorgeous range of nudes and naturals I’ve ever seen. There are so so so so many ways you can mix these up as well – it’s just fabulous. I love Half Baked and Toasted the most although it really is so hard to choose. I cannot wait to get my wee hands on Naked 2 when I have the dollaz! So excited!

I own an absolute LOAD of lip sticks and glosses. I’m addicted. I genuinely find it so hard to walk into a shop and not come out with lip stick. My ‘night time wear’ collection of lipsticks is ASTOUNDING (my fav is currently a super dark purple). This was a gift from the MAC Disney Venomous Villains range and is a really sweet purpley pink color. I just apply a tiny bit and it gives quite a nice tint of color to my lips which lasts most of the day and it’s too dark or obtrusive. I don’t own anything else by MAC but I pretty much want EVERYTHING THEY HAVE EVER MADE.

So there! My go to, day to day, can’t live without make up products. I’d be really interested to hear what everyone else uses. Let me know via comments!
