Just recently, Olivia Palermo (finally) married Johannes Huebl and we were astonished at the trend setter’s choice of wedding dress. Well, technically it wasn’t a dress but it was the perfect ensemble to wear to their intimate (witnessed only by family and two friends) wedding at a park in Bedford, New York. I think it’s cool that women today are breaking free from tradition and trying out newer things. Before Olivia, there were a few more other celebrities who chose not to go for the traditional wedding gown and sported something more modern, chic and exciting. If you’re planning on doing the same for your wedding day, check out these non-traditional celebrity wedding dresses to get inspired by.
- Olivia Palermo – let’s start with Olivia, shall we? It’s been months but we still can’t get over her wedding day look. Olivia wore Carolina Herrera on her special day. Her outfit consisted of a white sweatshirt, a tulle dress and, yes, shorts underneath. She finished off her outfit with a pair of blue Manolo Blahnik shoes (which was also her “something blue”) and simple hair and makeup. Needless to say, OP was effortlessly stunning in a special kind of way during that day.
- Kayley Cuoco – Kayley Cuoco who also got married rather recently broke free from the traditional white wedding dress and went for a romantic pink (princess-y) wedding gown by Vera Wang when she married tennis player hubby Ryan Sweeting last year for this year’s New Years Eve (or earlier this year, whichever way you look at it).
- Keira Knightley – another favorite non-traditional wedding dress comes from Keira Knightley. Keira wore a light pinkish off-white Chanel Haute Couture dress on her wedding to James Righton in May last year in France. She’s known, too, for recycling the said dress and wearing it to other events after the wedding and for ruining it later with a red wine spill.
- Avril Lavigne – punk rock princess Avril Lavigne went bold and black on her second wedding to Chad Kroeger and wore a black wedding dress by world-famous designer Monique Lhuiller. Avril said they chose to go with black because they both wanted a goth themed wedding and, boy, it was all gothic all right!
Other celebs who wore non-traditional wedding dresses on their Big Day include: Sarah Jessica Parker who wore black on her wedding day back in ’98, Jessica Biel, Reese Witherspoon and Gwen Stefani who all wore pink and, of course, Pamela Anderson who wore a bikini instead of a wedding dress during her wedding.
