WHAT IS IN THE FEBRUARY 2012 JOLIEBOX & MY THOUGHTS ON THE DECEMBER 2011 BOX – Glam Radar

A casual glance at the contents is enough to be reassured that we got our monies worth with the premiere edition of Joliebox UK. People like a bargain, and even though all the beauty boxes only promises ‘a selection of deluxe samples’ – I think most subscribers, myself included, would be ultimately disappointed by the lack of a full size product of some form.

The two products I was most surprised to enjoy was the Kusmi Tea Detox; a delicious blend of maté and green tea, flavoured with lemon and lemon grass, and Yon-ka Vital Defense Cream; an anti-aging, anti-pollution, intense hydrating moisturiser that aborbs quickly into my combination-oily skin without feeling heavy or greasy. Don’t be fooled by the tiny 5ml sample size, it lasted over 2 weeks for me with daily use!

The items I expected to love but ended up only liking were, surprisingly, all full sized. New Cid i-Gloss in Baby Doll is a thick yet non-sticky lip gloss in a pretty neutral pink shade that was let down by its terrible packaging; my applicator is so splayed that it’s starting to resemble a fan-tail brush – a little disappointing for a product that retails at £16. I enjoyed playing around with OPI Gold Shatter Nail Lacquer, but I still don’t get the appeal of the shatter finish, and the Jane Iredale 24-Carat Gold Dust in Rose Gold – a stunning pink with golden shimmer – did little to change my view of the total inconvenience of using loose pigments.

With that being said, a Joliebox Concealer Brush was a surprising little bonus. It does feel a little on the cheap side, but it is a decent size, and seems well made. The Mitchell & Peach Shower Wash is a generously sized sample of a very nice shower wash, but I am very frugal when it comes to body products, and rarely shell out for the expensive options when the cheaper alternatives work well for me.

And now for February! I was hesitant to continue my subscription after gambling on the December box, but I wanted to give Joliebox another chance before I dismiss the whole Beauty Box concept completely. I still think it is a great idea for some people, but I am far too picky to continuously sample products I have never heard of chosen by complete strangers.

This months box contains another Jane Iredale product, a sample of Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain in Forever Pink; it is a minuscule sample – the full size costs $25 – and er… reminds me of something I probably should not type on here. Moving swiftly on to the next product, a single sachet of RMK Cleansing Oil (some people received this, and some people got a facial oil by Kimia). The only full size item in this months box is a 30ml sachet of Macadamia Deep Repair Masque which roughly retails at £3.75. The last two items are make-up remover by TAAJ called Himalaya Micellar Water, and a 20ml tube of Lavera Basis Sensitive Organic Hand Cream (costs £1).

For some reason I received another Joliebox Concealer Brush in this months box – I don’t know if this was a mistake or they were trying to get rid of excess stock so I don’t know what that is all about. I shall blog my thoughts on these samples next month.
