Essence Volumizing Lash Powder Review – Glam Radar

It’s not like I’m hiding behind thick curtains and screaming, “DON’T LOOK AT ME!!!” just because my lashes are so short and barely visible even in macrophotography. I definitely have lash envy, however, and will not consider my makeup complete without a really good fiber mascara or false lashes to make my eyes pop more.

Too Faced recently came out with a $35 mascara set that comes with a tube of fibers and I was pretty eager to try it. “THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS?!?! Good lord, that is expens-SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.” As stingy as I am with money that goes towards cosmetics, I was desperate to find an even better mascara than my current favorite Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus. It has the best lengthening power out of all the fiber mascaras I’ve tried but… IT WAS NOT ENOUGH. MUST HAVE MOAR LASHES!!!! Nor did I want to wear false lashes every single time I wore makeup.

Just as I was about to hit the “splurge button” a shining beam of light blinded me and a voice was heard coming from the heavens.

“You can buy mascara fibers separately for $2.99 at Fred Meyers,” it said.

Okay, the shining beam of light was actually an email and the voice was actually text in that email but these details do not matter. What is important is that I got me some Essence Volumizing Lash Powder and I have pictures for you!!!

Essense Volumizing Lash Powder. Comes with a mascara wand/spoolie.

What it looks like. Black from the base mascara transferred on to the wand and into the bottle. You might want to keep this in mind.

Here’s my creepy eye with no makeup. Lashes are not curled and are barely visible even close up.

This time, I am wearing eye makeup and my lashes are curled. Aww, the lashes are so itty bitty! So cute! That was sarcasm.

I neglected to take pictures of the progress of putting on mascara and fibers. Basically you put on a mascara first. Before it dries, you brush on the fibers with a little mascara wand/spoolie that comes with the fibers. It just looks like one of those disposable mascara wands that makeup stores offer for you to try on their makeup. I find that it’s best to tap off the excess from the wand and to swiftly brush your lashes, or you end up with a lot of clumps. Then you apply mascara over the fibers to darken them and cement them in place.

Here are the results:

HOLY CRAP I HAVE LASHES ZOMG I HAVE LASHES I AM CRYING TEARS OF JOY AS I TYPE THIS I AM TOO EXCITED TO TYPE IN PUNCTUATION MARKS

I’m still getting the hang of this, as you can tell from the clumps. I look forward to trying this out with different mascara formulas. In these photos, I used Rimmel London Lash Accelerator as the base and the Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus as the “topcoat”.

Nobody else probably realizes this but I’ve never been able to get my lashes to show up like this in photos, unless I was wearing false lashes.

I really like how the Majolica Majorca mascara formula works so well with the Essense fibers. You can really tell that the MM formula was designed to really hold the fibers in place. However, it’s so sticky that it makes my lashes stick together. If one isn’t careful, one can actually look like one has fewer lashes. That would sort of negate the purpose of all this trouble you’re going through with fibers.

There’s a bit of fallout just when you apply the fibers but it brushes away easily with a face makeup brush. It’s also easy to get heavy handed. I find that it’s best to tap of excess from the wand and apply in thin layers.

Amazingly, I can now see lashes in my portrait shots. Never have I been so happy to be living in this moment in time, a time when lash fibers are sold separately. Let’s do another before-after! I love these.

I didn’t mean to step into a shadow to take this picture and emphasize how I’m a lurking creature before I put on makeup. That seriously wasn’t my intention.
