Real Techniques MakeUp Brushes Review – Glam Radar

by Maria · July 17, 2014

Hi everyone! So sorry I’ve been absent for a few days – I’ve been trying to soak up some sun before work starts, and pre-writing posts for the month of July! So don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about y’all (how could I???) – I’m just trying to stay ahead of the game. Today, I want to talk to you about a new love of mine. No, it’s not the boy band of the minute, or even the latest movie to hit the theaters this summer. It’s makeup brushes. These puppies have completely changed the way I think about makeup brushes, and I don’t know if I can go back! A few weeks ago, I showed a haul where I got these bad boys, and I haven’t been about to put them down since. I choose these brushes over my MAC and Sigma brushes, and I am already plotting my next purchases from my local Ulta! core-collection-brushes For my first dabble into Real Techniques, I chose to get the Core Collection, because I am always on the look out for new face brushes! I’m currently happy with the eye brushes I have right now (although don’t be surprised if I get the eye set after this!), and the brushes in the Travel Set just weren’t knocking my socks off. So naturally, I decided to give this set a go, and I’ms o glad I did. real-techniques-brushes In the Core Collection, you get the Contour Brush, the Pointed Foundation Brush, the Detailer Brush, and the Buffing Brushin this nifty case. I really like to use the case as shown above, as sort of a makeup brush stand. If makes it really handy to keep these brushes at the ready when I’m applying my makeup in the mornings. 3-pointed-foundation-brush The Pointed Foundation Brush is a bit small for foundation I find  it just takes too long to do my whole face! I really like to use this brush for concealer. The synthetic fibers of this brush really help smooth the concealer onto any problem areas, and helps to buff it in. I also really like using this for applying the Bare Minerals Biqsue under my eyes as an under-eye setting powder. This deposits the perfect amount of powder while blending it in at the same time.

The Contour Brush is excellent for contouring with my matte bronzers, but it also is great for cream blush. I can take this with my MAC cream blush and stipple it onto the apples of my cheeks. Because this is a smaller brush, it’s great at depositing color in specific places, such as the hollows or the apples of my cheeks.

5-buffing-brush

This may be my favorite foundation brush out of the entire pack. The Buffing Brush is advertised to be used with powered foundation, but I like it for liquid as well. I first tried this with my Bare Minerals foundation. You guys know I have a love/hate relationship with that stuff. Using this brush with that foundation however, is a match made in heaven. I have used Bare Minerals on and off for years, and I have never gotten as flawless of an application as I do with this brush. I tried to go back to the brushes that came with the Get Started Kit that Bare Minerals do, and I couldn’t believe how scratchy it was, and how streaky the foundation went on. If you’ve been on/off about powder foundations, seriously give this brush a try. It will rock your world. Well since I’ve raved about it for powder foundation, it seems only fair that I should mention that this is great for liquid foundation as well. I really like using this to quickly apply all of my liquid foundations instead of the Bare Minerals brush that I had been using for that. This brush is quite dense, so it makes blending into the skin a dream. 6-detailer-brush The Detailer Brush can be used for a bunch of things, but I like using it as a lip brush. I find that with my brighter lipsticks (Vegas Volt, I’m looking at you!), it can be hard to get a smooth application. With this brush, I can control how much lipstick goes on my lips, and where it goes. Now, for everyday purposes, I don’t use this brush. However, if the thought of bright lipstick even crosses my mind, I reach for this brush. This brush is perfect because it’s so tiny: you can see from the picture below, the brush is about the size of my pinkie nail! 7-lipstick-brush So there you have it – I’m officially obsessed. I don’t know why I waited so long to finally get these brushes, but I’m so glad I did. And I will have you know, that I’m doing a serious clean out of my other non-soft brushes (cough cough: BARE MINERALS). Those can finally go in the garbage can – because these are here to stay in my collection.
