My sample box is starting to look a little full again so it is time for the return of SAMPLE SUNDAY.Here is my review of Sample Sunday – MAXFactor Ageless Elixer 2 in 1 Foundation + Serum !

Have you missed it? Do you have any idea what I’m talking about? No? Well the basic premise is that every Sunday I try out a sample and decide on the basis of it whether I would buy the full sized product. After all, that’s what samples are for isn’t it!

In general I’m wary of foundations offering skin care benefits as they tend to be aimed at dryer skin types. Foundation has a tough enough time sticking to my oily nose without introducing any extra moisturiser in it. The texture of this feel like a very thick moisturiser and the strange sickly sweet scent give of the impression of a skin care item too. This isn’t a tinted moisturiser though, it is a medium to full coverage foundation.

The sample is in the shade Natural 50 which is too dark for me unsurprisingly. What does strike me is the strange ashy grey/pink undertone that it has. Even though it is too dark for me the tone makes my skin look a little dull. A quick peek at the Boots website revealed that this only comes in 6 shades so I’d imagine a lot of people would struggle to find a good colour match.

The finish is more satin than anything else. It doesn’t really set on me, half an hour after application it was still slightly tacky to touch but it isn’t a full on dewy finish either. I can imagine it being quite flattering on some but I personally prefer a matte finish. Of course I could powder it but then I wouldn’t really be testing the foundation would I?

I don’t really think this is a foundation that would suit me. It isn’t right for my skin type and I doubt I would find a suitable colour match so no, I wouldn’t buy the full size. If it sounds like it might be better suited to you though a full sized bottle costs £12.99 x
