Paula’s Choice Anti-Ageing Clear Skin Hydrator Review – Glam Radar

I have combination/ oily skin for the most part but I do have a couple of dry patches so I like to use a moisturiser. Here is my review of Paula’s Choice Anti-Ageing Clear Skin Hydrator  !

I’m also a firm believer in prevention rather than cure and whilst at 24 I don’t have much going on the way of wrinkles I don’t like that most moisturisers aimed at oily skin types are designed for the teenage market. I was very intrigued then when I read that Paula’s Choice had noticed that it’s not just teenagers who get spots and created a moisturiser aimed at soothing spotty, combination/oily skin whilst providing anti ageing benefits as well.

Priced at £23.75 for a 50ml bottle this is clearly on the higher end of skin care. The packaging reflects this. I cannot tell you how much I love the pump bottle, it’s hygienic and looks very sleek in my bathroom. The packaging is plastic but it feels sturdy and well made. One and a half pumps is enough for my entire face.

The product itself has a thick gel like texture which feels reminiscent of a silicone based primer. Of course it does have silicone in it which is something to be aware of if you like to avoid silicone based products. Personally I am fine with silicones. In fact the smoothing, slightly dry texture makes this a fantastic primer under makeup removing the need to use a separate one. It is fragrance free (which I love) and strangely they specify that you can use it around the eyes safely so there is no need to buy a separate eye cream. When you think of it as a three in one product (moisturiser, primer, eye cream) suddenly the price tag doesn’t look quite so scary.

Now I have been using this for just over a month and whilst I have used it around my eyes with no ill effects it’s not quite moisturising enough for my dry under eye areas. I didn’t develop any milia which I am prone too which is always a good sign. The texture of the product is quite thick yet it seems to instantly sink into the skin. There is no greasy, slippy feel afterwards so for the first few times I used it I actually though it wasn’t moisturising enough. Yet after around 5 weeks of changeable weather my skin has developed no new dry spots, it feels perfectly well hydrated. It just doesn’t overload my skin like some moisturisers can.

I will say that for the first 7-10 days when I used this I did develop a few breakouts however after that my skin got used to it and I haven’t had any blemishes since. None at all. The website here helpfully lists all of the active ingredients including the spot fighting elements and antioxidants. They even provide links to papers supporting the claims that they make which is something I have never seen another skin care company do.

I’m so excited to have found a brand that actually caters for my skin type without stripping it dry like so many products targeted at oily skin can. The product won’t be for everyone as it won’t provide enough moisture for dry/ normal skin but for combination/ oily skin I think it’s fab! X
