How Old Is Your Make-up? | Glam Radar

by Maria · September 8, 2014

I hate throwing things away. It makes me feel a bit guilty, that I’ve wasted money on something and I’m basically just chucking money down the drain. As make-up products last so long and take so long to get through, it’s no surprise that we quickly grow bored of them and move onto our newest buy. A few days ago I came across a blog who mentioned a website that lets you check out whether your neglected products are out of date. Didn’t know make-up went off? Well now you do! We’re told to throw away and replace products every few months (it differs from product to product, e.g mascara should be replaced every three months whereas lipstick can last over a year). Grim and bacteria can grow on make-up especially if you’re applying it directly to your face or with you fingers, which can then lead to blemishes and infection – not good! The website is Check Cosmetic, and you simply put in the batch number on the back of your product and presto – it’ll tell you when that specific one was released to shops, and how long it has before it should be thrown away. Obviously this is just going by the date the batch was released to stores, you may have bought it a few weeks later, so judge this as a guideline.  how-old-is-your-make-up-500x181-1 old-makeup-500x184-1 I have a few products I’ve been hoarding for ages, and decided to check out just when I had bought them.

Maybelline Dream Creamy Foundation: Manufactured in August 2010. Shelf life: 36 Months.

Usable for the next 16 months.

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse (Honey Beige): Manufactured in June 2008. Shelf life: 36 Months.

Out of Date.

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse (Fawn): Manufactured in September 2010. Shelf Life: 36 Months.

Usable for the next 17 months.

L’Oreal Paris Invisible Perfection Powder: Manufactured in May 2010. Shelf Life: 36 Months.

Usable for the next 14 months.

Nivea SPF Lip Care: Manufactured: 2008.

Out of Date.

Now I’m sure I have a tonne of other products that are a bit past their sell by date. Make-up that’s off won’t perform as well, so it’s probably best not to push it to the back of your drawer! I am desperately trying to downsize my collection as I have so much stuff that’s just left untouched.
