BECCA loose powder in Mocha (left) and Wheat (right).
This a great powder because of the color pay off. The powder is not sheer. It provides great coverage, controls oil, and the color is true to what is seen in the packaging. The downfall is this powder feels chalky. It is not as finely milled as other powders. In addition, if you do not match the color perfectly, the skin will look ashy 🙁

Ben Nye Visage Powder in Camel (left) and Banana (Right).
A couple years ago I began to hear a lot of good things about this powder and how a lot of Pro’s use it. I never tried it until after I saw Mario Dedivanovic using it during his makeup demonstration. Lately, the Banana powder has become one of favorites for highlight my own face. It will work for most complexions but I would not use it for anyone beyond NC 45. Both the Camel and Banana give a golden hue to the skin. The color payoff is good yet sheer enough not to distort the color of your foundation to much. During Mario’s workshop he used a damp sponge to apply the powder which gives a flawless finish. Generally, Ben Nye powders are inexpensive. I purchased the  1.5 oz jar from Nigel’s Beauty Emporium in North Hollywood for $7.00. Great buy!

Inglot Loose Powder
Unfortunately, there is not a labeled color or number on the package. I purchased this powder last year when I visited the Inglot store in New York. I would not recommend this powder as an all over powder because it contains lots of light reflecting particles. Therefore, if you were to use this powder all over the face; you may just end up looking like a glitter ball. Yikes! Like most powders,  I like this one when highlight my face and its because of the fine shimmers within the powder. The picture below details the shimmer I mentioned.

NARS Loose Powder in Mountain.
I absolutely LOVE this powder. It was designed especially for Naomi Campbell and I can definitely tell. This powder is perfect for women with NC45 skin and beyond. It gives a gold hue to the skin, very finely milled and glides on like butter. I mostly use this powder in the summer when I’m darker, to offset a lighter foundation or I lightly dust it across my face to set any foundation.

Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder in (from left to right) Neutral Light, Medium, Dark & Deep
I initially purchased these powders for a photo shoot I did with a lot of African American models. The jars they are pictured in are stackable jars I use for my kit when traveling. Normally, the product comes in a jar twice that size, so you get a lot of product for your money. This is an excellent product for richly hued skin. The medium color I use for highlighting deeper skin tones. It gives a beautiful glow to highlighted areas. I find these powders to be moderately pigmented versus the description, noted as “translucent” on the packing. Overall this is a great powder for women of color to set makeup, control oil and highlight.

YSL Yves Saint Laurent  Poudre Sure Measure Semi Loose Powder in #4
I purchased this powder based on seeing the wonders Sam Fine creates with it. Unfortunately, I purchased the wrong color :(. He uses #2 and #3. However, this is a beautiful all over powder to set my foundation. The packaging is divine and I appreciate the design of creating a sifter that shaves the product for usage. This gives you more control when applying the product, prevents excess from scattering everywhere and cuts down on wasting product. At $60.00 a container, YSL knew they had to do something to prevent wasting excess powder.

Benefit Powderflage
This is another one of my favorites for using under the eyes. I like this powder for setting my under eye concealer. It helps neutralize the color of my concealer and any dark circles. The main reason why I like it so much, is because it feels like silk on the skin due to the powder being extremely finely milled. I have noticed it also protects my under eye makeup from tears and sweat.

Makeup Forever Super Matte Loose Powder
This is one of my new found fav’s. Like most MUFE products the color range is perfect. But,  I like this product because of its consistency. It is appropriately titled as super matte because that is the finish it gives you. In addition, it helps your makeup last all day. I purchased the four stack jars at Nigel’s for my kit a month ago and I’m so happy I did. On shoots they help the makeup last all day. In addition, they don’t look powdery on the skin nor ashy.
