Instyler Rotating Iron, £99.99*

When the folks over at Instyler contacted me to ask me to review their Rotating Curling and Straightening Iron, I’m not gonna lie, I was a little bit skeptical. As regular readers will know, my flyaway hair is fine and difficult to style, which is why I leave it flat or tie it back most of the time. Volume doesn’t really work for me, and curls, well, they’re out of the question – they fall flat within half an hour. Regardless, after having a look at their website, I accepted their offer in the hope that this product might just be the one. You know, the one that lets me style my hair without problems.

Standard blog photos of the product. It comes with a comb, heat protection mat, AND a CD-Rom with instructions (wow.)

Well, after a few uses, I can safely say this: it may not be the one, but it comes pretty close. Before I get stuck into the review, let me say this; I’ve been using the same old, battered pair of GHD’s for a few years now, and whether it’s age, or just me being boring, I’m not sure but I can’t quite shake the monotony that comes with straightening my hair (because my pair are ridic at curling, it’s pathetic.)

Step in, Instyler. This iron has one unique selling point: it moves while it’s curling/straightening your hair. It moves. As in, it rotates! This is supposed to be healthier and better for your hair, and the brush bristles comb through your hair while you’re styling which leaves your hair smooth.

I’ve tried this a few times now, and I have to say, I’m impressed. When used for straightening, my hair is smooth and silky. When used for curling, my hair holds the best curl I’ve ever seen it hold. I chose the larger barrel iron, which leaves my hair looking pretty in gorgeous, big curls, and my hair doesn’t feel fried within an inch of it’s life like it usually does after styling. The only drawbacks to this iron (and there are only two) are the loud noise it emits when the iron rotates (but it’s no louder than a hairdryer, so it’s not a dealbreaker) and the length of time and heat setting necessary for styling – even my fine hair requires the highest heat setting, and even at that, I still have to leave the iron rotating for more than the recommended time. Again,  it’s not a dealbreaker, and although this isn’t quite, that one, perfect product I’ve been searching for, it’s made a very good attempt at it, and I definitely recommend it.
