Dessert Pizza with Nuts – Glam Radar

by Natalie · November 15, 2015

Today I am very excited to share with you one of many collaborations with Laz from the blog Lazaro Cooks.  It will be one year of food blogging next month and I finally found a Miami buddy who shares the same passion of cooking as I do.

Laz has been food blogging for over two years now and his passion for food shows with his bold and exquisite dishes that are plated to perfection!  I was so honored when Laz asked me to do a collaboration dish with him and beyond excited to show you what we came up with.

We decided to blend together Laz’s love for pizza and my love for french toast to create the ultimate dessert for you guys.  And we made it just in time for Valentines Day.  This would be an awesome dessert to surprise your sweetheart with after dinner.  Or it can be a great dessert to share with your children as well.

So Laz and I emailed each other back and forth with different ingredients, toppings, and creative ideas to make this pizza out of the ordinary.  The dough and custard recipes are Laz’s mad scientist creation.  The banana foster recipe is from my post Sugar Coma French Toast that is also on my blog.  Since this is a Valentines Day post we stuck with the theme and Laz got a heart shaped cake pan from Michael’s and made some chocolate covered strawberries.  I hope everyone enjoys this recipe as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you.  Also sending lots of love and kisses to you and your family on this special day! Happy Valentines Day from Lazaro Cooks and FoodAtick.

For the Custard:

4 egg yolks

2 vanilla beans split – or 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

4 tbs cane sugar

2 tbs vanilla infused agave syrup

½ cup whole milk – well chilled

2 cup heavy cream – well chilled

In a glass bowl, beat together the egg yolks and sugar until thickened.

Whisk in the cold milk, heavy cream, vanilla agave syrup.  Add the vanilla seeds.  Throw in the split vanilla pods.

Cover with plastic wrap.  Fridge for 12 hours.  Yes that’s a long time but this is how the magic happens.

By the way, this makes a lot of custard, so feel free to halve it, to fit your particular needs.

For the Sugar Coma Banana Topping

4 Bananas peeled and sliced 1/2 cup of Dark Brown Sugar 4 Large Eggs 4 tablespoons of Butter 1/2 cup of Dark Corn Syrup

1 cup of Maple Syrup

1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

In a large pan melt two tablespoons of butter and add the brown sugar, pecans, dark corn syrup, and maple syrup and bring the mixture to a boil on medium high heat.  Then bring the heat down to medium and let it simmer for 2 or 3 minutes.  Then add the bananas and the vanilla extract and stir it around.

Deep Dish Pizza Dough Recipe:

1 ½ cup Spring Water – (heated to 115 F)

1 envelope active dry yeast

1 tbs cane sugar

5 cups bread flour

2 whole eggs

½ cup olive oil – (not Extra Virgin, it tends to overpower shit)

1 tbs kosher salt

1 tbs ground cinnamon

1 tbs vanilla extract

In the bowl of a standing mixer, add the warm water, yeast & sugar.  Allow to sit for 10 minutes.  If it doubles in size and foams, you’re good.  If not the yeast does not like you.

In a glass bowl, sift together the flour, ground cinnamon and sea salt.

Add the eggs, vanilla extract & olive oil to the yeast mixture.

Add the sifted flour.  Mix on a low speed.  Mixing time will vary depending on your machine.  What you are looking for is a smoothly kneaded dough mass.

Portion out your dough balls; I used 12 oz dough for the standard heart shaped pan.  Quickly knead and pinch the bottom.  Place in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap.  Allow the dough to proof for 1 ½ hours.

To prepare:

Generously spray your cake pan with Olive oil Pam.  You better not skip this step, if you actually want it to come out the pan.

Press the dough out on the pan.  Pinch up all sides to create a crust.

Spoon some of the custard onto the dough.  Allow to sit for 3 minutes.  The dough will absorb some custard.  Reapply more custard.

Drop little mounds of mascarpone cheese all over the dough.

Bake at 350 F for 40 minutes.

Add the Sugar Coma Banana Topping.

Dust with powdered sugar.

Drizzle with chocolate syrup.
