How to Choose the Perfect Mascara – Glam Radar

Mascara has the ability to make your eyes look more open, awake and refreshed so it’s important that you include it in your everyday makeup routine, especially if you’re someone who has eyes that tend to look tired all the time. If you want to get the most out of wearing mascara, you should invest in a really good one. We all have different lash sets so you can’t just rely on your friends’ recommendations when it comes to finding the perfect one. If you still haven’t found your HOLY GRAIL, check out these tips on how to choose the perfect mascara.

  • Pick a color – contrary to popular belief, mascaras come in more colors than one. Black, of course, is the most popular one and even that has lots of different shades and intensity of blackness. There’s also brown mascara, blue mascara, purple and green but the latter ones are more ideal for creating statement looks instead of everyday looks. Choose a color depending on your need. If you’re looking for something to wear with your daily makeup looks, pick between black and brown.

  • Decide on what you want to achieve – mascaras are made to help you out with different ‘issues’ some are meant to lengthen your lashes while others are formulated to help you get more voluminous lashes. If you’re looking for something that would last you all day, you can try looking for mascaras that are ‘long-wearing’ or ‘long lasting’ as these are made to last anywhere from 6 to 24 hours or until you take them off. For a smudge-proof option, opt for water-proof mascara. On the other hand, if you wear makeup and mascara for only a short period of time in a day or you just don’t want to go through the hassle of rubbing your eyes with a cotton pad to get the product off, choose water soluble mascara instead as this is the kind that comes off easily. Non-clumping mascaras are quickly becoming popular, too.

  • Consider the brush type – remember the L’oreal Telescopic Mascara that had a ball-shaped brush? I don’t know about you but that one never worked for me. Brushes are important things to consider when buying mascara. Some will come with a straight brush while others will have a curved one. Others even have funky looking brushes that are said to help coat each lash strand better. Try out several different brushes and see which ones you like best. Results will vary on how you apply your mascara, of course, and how long and thick your lashes are.

  • Mix and match – if you find a mascara formula that you really like but the brush isn’t cutting it for you, don’t give up on it just yet. You can buy individual mascara brushes that you can use with your mascara instead of using the one it came with. If the brush doesn’t cap off your mascara bottle, clean it up by washing after use, dry and store away wrapped in tissue paper.
