WINGED EYELINER – Glam Radar

This is something a LOT of people ask me about, so I figured a tutorial on how I do my eyeliner wouldn’t go amiss! It’s basically colouring in, and while I find it pretty easy, I’ve had a lot of practice, so I know it can be difficult for some people! So here’s my how-to on winged eyeliner:Here is my review of WINGED EYELINER !

1. Start with a clean base. In this photo I only have mascara on (having taken the rest of my makeup off.) If you want to use a primer or eyeshadow, feel free, but if you’re not sure about winged liner, I’d practice on a clean base first to get a feel for it and see where you’ve gone right and wrong.

2. Get your eyeliner at the ready. I use Maybelline Lasting Drama 24hr Gel Liner (that’s a LOT to type haha) but there are loads of different types of liner (gel, pen, liquid and pencil) so use whatever you feel most comfortable with. I use gel liner because it’s really pigmented and gives a matte black finish but it’s more down to personal choice.

3. If you’re not yet acquainted with your liner brush or pen, now is the time to be. It’s not a bad idea to draw lines on your hand to get to grips with the product and how much pressure you’ll need to apply to get a precise line.

4. Start in the middle. I can’t stress enough how much easier this makes the process! By starting in the middle and working outward, you’re dealing with the part of the liner that will be thickest, so it’s easier to correct any mistakes. Draw a thin line from the middle of the eye to the outside corner (don’t worry about flicks for now, and if you don’t think the line is thick enough, then the magic at this point is that you can go back and correct it later.) If it makes it easier, rest your elbow on a stable surface – shaky hands are NOT your friend with this look, so make sure you have something to lean on until you’re more confident.

5. Done that? Fab. Lets do the cat’s eyes’ flicks now. Sometimes I don’t do this, sometimes I just don’t feel it’s appropriate for the makeup I’m wearing but again, it’s all personal choice. If you want to, take your brush (or pen or pencil) and draw a small triangle shaped flick at the corner of your eye (another reason I love gel liner is how easy it is to remove if something goes wrong here.) In this photo, the flick is quite defined and normally I’d tone it down a bit, but this is for a tutorial so you know what I mean! 🙂

6. Now you can either fill in the gaps on your liner (skip to step 7) or you can bring the line closer to the inside of your eye. If you wish to continue the line further along your eyelid, then simply draw your line as close to the lashes as you can. Again, you can fix this later if you mess it up.

7. You’re done! Just fill in the gaps on your liner and you’re good to go 🙂

I hope this helped a few folk, sorry I can’t actually get photos of me doing this – I might do a video later in the week 🙂
Hope you enjoyed it!
