Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant Review | Glam Radar

Hello beauties here is my Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant Review!

I’m sharing with you today a product which has quickly risen to the top of my all-time favourite skincare loves – Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant.

As you can see from the pic/swatch below, it is as it says – a cream, and doesn’t have the rough granules that you’ll find in a lot of other exfoliants.

 More about the product

I guess the key thing with this exfoliant is that it’s a chemical exfoliant, which means that it’s more gentle than say, your apricot or oatmeal scrubs that can sometimes feel like rubbing sandpaper over your skin. It removes surface debris using alpha hydroxy acids (AHA acids, as they’re sometimes known) as well as lactic and salicylic acids to improve the texture of your skin. It promotes cell renewal and lifts dead skin cells, which in turn makes your moisturiser more effective, and makes makeup application smoother.

This exfoliant also has some extra enzymes, lavender, aloe vera, and “coneflower” (??) which helps to reduce sensitivity and soothes skin.

Application
You only need to smooth a thin layer on your skin, and leave it on for between 10-15 minutes making sure you avoid the eye area, nostrils and lips. After that, just rinse off with warm water. It’s really quite simple.

In terms of how much to apply, you want a lot less than what I’ve smoothed onto my hand in the picture below – if you can see the thinnest part in the middle, that’s about the thickness/thinness that you want on your face – or even less actually.

I apply it twice a week – generally on a Tuesday and then Friday night after cleansing my face.

My Review
The first thing I have to say is that it works. Even after the first time I used it, my skin was (god, what a cliche!) touchably soft. I kept running my fingers over it, I kept asking my boyfriend to touch my face… It was incredible. It’s a feeling that hasn’t gone away in the last month that I’ve been using it regularly, either.

I’ve also found that since using it, I’ve broken out less (YAY!) and that using it has reduced the severity of already-existing bumps. Can I get a hell yes?

The other benefit I’ve found is that, more than any other exfoliant I’ve used, it turns out I need to use less moisturiser than usual since using it. I also like that it’s not abrasive & there’s minimal risk of over-exfoliation because I’m strict about how often I use it, how long I leave it on my skin and how thoroughly I wash it off.

This is unlike a lot of scrubs I’ve used where I could scrub for ages, doing unknown damage to my skin and not knowing. The Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant has a set time limit, a suggested thickness to apply and that’s all you have to worry about.

Could It Be Better?
Absolutely. Firstly, I find the cream formula can be a bit uneven – I’d prefer a smoother formula but that’s nitpicking I suppose with the texture.

The next thing is the price point. The Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant retails in Australia for $67.50 – ouch! But for the month of March, Adore Beauty are offering 10% off Dermalogica which is fantastic, so pop over there if you’re keen for a deal. You can also buy it online at a few places that ship to Australia if you shop around.

Dermalogica is available at David Jones (on Elizabeth St in Sydney, downstairs near Becca) and AdoreBeauty (online). Are there any other retailers that ship to Australia that I’m missing?

It’s also stocked at a lot of beauty salons around town, so not being able to find it is not an excuse icon_wink

Please note this product was not provided for review – I bought it with my own hard-earned cash
