Real Techniques Core Collection Review – Glam Radar

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last few months, you’ll have heard about the Real Techniques makeup brushes. I’m very late on this trend, and last weekend I realised it was time for me to get on board and try them out. I’ve never been amazed by make up brushes – the cheap ones have always been fine for me so what a difference it made when using the more expensive version. I bought the Core Collection from Amazon for £19.91, a set of four brushes; a detailer brush, a pointed foundation brush, a contour brush and a buffing brush. The detailer brush is for concealing the problem areas or to use with lipstick. The pointed foundation brush explains itself, to be used with liquid foundation to build custom coverage. The contour brush to apply highlighter or contour or create a sheer, soft focus finish. The buffing brush is ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation. The brushes also come in a little case, which is a 2 in 1 stand. They are so light and easy to use, I definitely saw a difference when using these brushes compared to my cheap, eBay ones from Hong Kong. After using these I’m saving up to get the whole set!

I absolutely loved the Buffing brush. It instantly became one of my favourites. It evens out the foundation so easily, and just does everything. Its a bit of an all in one brush, one I can’t ever see myself being without. It’s so easy to use and it really does help your make up to look flawless! I was actually pretty amazed at how good it made my foundation look. Getting the base right is so important, and that’s exactly what this little wonder does.

I also loved the Contouring brush. I used it to apply my bronzer, blusher and highlighter, then used the buffing brush to just even it all out to reduce the horrible lines you can sometimes get of you apply too much. The brush is so soft and my powder based bronzer/blusher/highlighter looked so even. I’ve not actually tries to use this brush with creme based makeup but I’m sure the results will be just as amazing.

Onto the detailer brush. It’s a tiny little brush, so it really is great for those tiny bits that need filling in. Apart from that, it’s not all that great. Don’t get me wrong, it really is a pretty amazing brush but I suppose because its not used half as much as the others then I don’t rate it so much. I usually just use it to help conceal my blemishes, but I’m usually pretty lucky and I don’t tend to get many! I also used it under my eyes just to hide my tired little eyes.

The pointed foundation brush, what go say about this. Again, it’s not my favourite of the set but its not a bad little brush at that either. I’ve always had a little love hate relationship with foundation brushes. I always use either my fingers (clean of course!) or a sponge. I’ve tried and tried to love foundation brushes but so far I just can’t. What I do love though, is that it’s pointed. It really does help to get an even coverage on your skin so you don’t have bits missing. I’m going to carry on trying and trying to love this brush as I can really see its potential. I’ve heard that plenty of other makeup artists/bloggers/anyone who uses this brush do love it, so hopefully I can become one of the many that do!
