I sometimes think that I was a hippie in my previous life. When I make this granola it definitely brings out my inner hippie and I love it. I start by sprouting the granola which takes a few days, but it’s worth the wait. I add in sprouted pumpkin and sunflower seeds, chia, a healthy dose of raw cacao for it’s super antioxidant powers along with a few other things that make your body happy.

This is the buckwheat that has sprouted for a few days. Make sure you use raw buckwheat not toasted buckwheat also called kasha. Buckwheat is not “wheat”, it is gluten free and is related to the rhubarb plant. I soak the pumpkin and sunflower seeds for easier digestion, then sprout them for a day along with the buckwheat.

Like almost every other recipe I make up, I don’t really have a recipe. The last time the kids babysitter was over she asked me for this recipe and it has taken me a while to put something together. I am sure you hate hearing this but I just go by what I am feeling on that day.  Today I just so happened to want chocolate, no big deal, chocolate for breakfast. This kind of chocolate for breakfast is good for you.

When making granola it all comes down to the quality of ingredients for me. I want to be certain I am not consuming harmful fats and it’s not loaded with sugar. When I make it myself I know exactly what I am eating and I can feel good about it. Not to mention, and I am not blowing my own horn here, but this is the best granola around. Feel free to add in gogi berries, which I do separately, or anything else you think may work. Loaded with omega’s, protein, fiber and the good fat from the coconut oil, this is a great breakfast or snack.

I will share with you what I do and you can add or take away where you want. I serve this granola with fresh homemade nut milk or goat yogurt. You may find that it is not sweet enough for you. I don’t like it sweet but my kids complain unless I drizzle on a little more raw honey for them.
