MAC Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colour – Full Review, Swatches, Wear Test – Glam Radar

by Jane · March 19, 2015

Despite the repetition and triteness of the name, the MAC Casual Colour Lip & Cheek Colours are a new cream product released from MAC that combines the creaminess of a cream blush and the longevity of a lipstick. But when delivering such versatility, did MAC also sacrifice quality?

The MAC Casual Colour Lip and Cheek Colour retail for $20 at maccosmetics.com. They come in .43oz which is 4x the standard MAC lipstick (.1oz for $14.50), 4x the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouges (.13oz for $24), 2x the MAC Creamblend Blushes (.19oz for $20), and 2x the Makeup Forever Aqua Creams (.21oz for $23).

PIGMENTATION: 5/5
TEXTURE: 4.5/5
LONGEVITY: 5/5
OVERALL: 5/5 THE GOOD:

  • Pigmented
  • Extremely long lasting
  • Fades evenly on lips
  • Does not get dewy on cheeks

THE BAD:

  • Difficult to blend on cheeks
  • Not moisturizing after 4 hrs on lips

Bottom Line: These are low-maintenance, pigmented, long lasting (up to 6 hrs on the lips, 16 hrs on the cheeks), semi-matte, dual cream cheek and lip products that are by far my favorite MAC products that I own.

Pigmentation – ( 5 / 5 ) On the cheeks a slight dab into this product will deliver full pigmentation for one application. On the lips – one layer will create a sheer wash/balm stain effects; two will give true to pan color; three will give full opacity with glossiness. The finish is semi-matte on the cheeks and satin on the lips.

Shades – ( 3 / 5 ) Unfortunately due to being limited edition and a new product, there are only 8 shades available. However, of the 8 they covered a wide range of cool baby pinks to warm reds and neutral purples.

Texture – ( 4.5 / 5 ) MAC claims that these are creamy, light-weight, and super blendable. Due to the intense pigmentation, it’s difficult to see its creamy texture until fully applied to the lips in which case it’s very creamy and glides on like a dream. It smooths out the texture of the lips and doesn’t settle into the lip lines ever. Out For Fun is more drying than Keep it Casual so exfoliating the lips beforehand is necessary. For the cheeks, it tends to be difficult to blend on without ruining the foundation underneath so patting it onto the cheeks or stippling it on is the most effective application. It is not hydrating, tacky, or has slip on the cheeks.

Longevity – ( 5 / 5 ) These have incredible lasting powder. On the cheeks and not powdered, it lasts 8-10 hours on my combination/oily skin with a hint of dewiness after the 4th hour (not pronounced at all). My pores and imperfections show through more without powder but with powder, this blush lasts far into the 12-16 hour mark (I pulled an all nighter for an exam!) and always looks freshly applied. On the lips the rich opacity fades after 4-5 hours in which it is also no longer hydrating and glossy. It leaves a mix between a stain and rosy lip color that lasts until 8 hours. It fades evenly on both the lips and cheeks, does not settle into lip lines, or feather outside.

Packaging – ( 3 / 5 ) Though the pots are simple and take up minimal space, they are not the most sanitary packaging. I would have rather a squeeze tube for this product. To remedy this, I just scoop a small amount out into a smaller pot that I use for application. This product will last you forever.

Overall – ( 5 / 5 ) These are low-maintenance pigmented, long lasting (up to 8 hrs on the lips, 16 hrs on the cheeks), semi-matte, dual cream cheek and lip products that are by far my favorite MAC products that I own. They fade evenly throughout the day and come with an ample amount of product that has the shelf life of 2 years(cream blushes are usually 6 months). MAC hasn’t released anything as outstanding as these in awhile and I thoroughly look forward to seeing more colors from this line.

Recommended? Whole heartedly for people of all skin types and complexions especially if you want rich color for all day wear. If you want moisture, sheer/glossy/dewy finish, or blendability in your products then this is not for you.

I scoop out some product into a smaller jar to keep the majority of the product sanitized.

1) Out For Fun (cool coral) – A fresh, fun color for the spring/summer that is similar to MAC Exxxhibitionist from the Peacocky collection. It applies more orange on the cheeks and more coral on the lips (due to natural pigmentation of lips). I heard this is the most drying from the 8 colors in the collection and it is noticeably drier than Keep it Casual to the point where it accentuates dry flakes on my lips if I haven’t properly exfoliated beforehand. (A sheer application was used for the picture.) 2) Keep It Casual (warm wine) – A unique berry red shade that is perfect for creating the Snow White flushed cheeks and bitten lip look. This is similar in color to my natural flush and would be perfect for the fall and winter time. (A full opacity application was used for the picture and wear test.) mac-casual-colour-lip-cheek-colour-shade-500x281-1 mac-casual-colour-lip-cheek-colour-shade1-500x281-1  mac-casual-colour-lip-cheek-colour-look1-500x467-1 CHEEKS: The left side is without powder; the right with powder. As you can tell, the color fades quicker on the not powdered side and my imperfections get slightly more highlighted. Although not as vibrant on camera, the blush is still going on strong at the 8 hour mark onto the 12+ hour mark and possibly to 16 hours with powder. LIPS: With 3 layers, the color is opaque and glossy. The moisture and most of the color faded by 4-5 hours due to eating lunch, dinner, snacks, and water. By 5-8 hrs, it becomes more of a sheer lip color/stain that is fully gone by 8 hours.
