Hard Core Spot Treatment – Benzoyl Peroxide Lotion Review | Glam Radar

I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to write about this. Last year for the first time in my 24 years I suffered from bad skin.
Here is my review of Hard Core Spot Treatment – Benzoyl Peroxide Lotion  !

I had horrendous hormonal acne, mostly but not completely around my chin area. I know exactly what caused it (switched up hormonal contraception). Long story short it took over 6 months to clear up. Eventually when I had given up on off the shelf lotions and potions I went up to the pharmacist who suggested this. Benzoyl Peroxide lotions typically come in either 5% or 10% solutions. Of course I was desperate and wanted the 10% but thankfully she convinced me to start with the 5%.

Benzoyl Peroxide is an extremely harsh ingredient which kills bacteria on the skin. According to the Boots website it also has a peeling action which makes your skin less greasy. This isn’t a slap on and go type of product. You must wash your hands after use and be aware that if the product comes into contact with dyed fabrics it may bleach them.

So does it work? Erm yes. It dried out my blemishes after a couple of days use. But the peeling?! Ouch! This stuff dried out my skin like nothing I’ve ever seen before. I couldn’t wear makeup whilst I used this. My skin was coming off in huge flakes and was cracked and sore. I think, although I can’t prove it of course, that the bleaching element may have helped reduce scarring from the major blemishes as I don’t really have any now save for one or two small scars.

At £3.83 for a 40g tube this was probably the cheapest of all the acne solutions I tried but I wouldn’t recommend this as a first resort. For me this is definitely a last resort when all else has failed as the extreme dry skin was almost worse to deal with than the acne itself. Yes I do think it works but please do use with caution and be prepared to deal with the side effects. If in doubt speak to your pharmacist!
