Are Super Cheap Brushes Actually Worth It Review ? – Glam Radar

A couple of months ago I decided to pick up a super cheap brush kit of eBay simply so I would have something to use if all my good brushes were dirty or something to travel with if I didn’t want to lose/ break more expensive ones.
Here is my review of Are Super Cheap Brushes Actually Worth It? !

So I bought the Fraulein  3.8 31 piece brush kit for a measly £15.99. Yes that’s right, 31 brushes for less than the price of one MAC brush. I wasn’t expecting miracles (and I didn’t get any) but some of them are actually great little brushes! Of course about 8 of them have gone straight in the bin but the rest I have actually been using!

The brush roll itself is cheap of course. It has exactly the same kind of plastic vinyl smell as Primark hand bags. But it hasn’t fallen apart yet, the ‘pleather’ is easy to keep clean and it has space for a huge amount of brushes. It’s actually pretty handy to travel with.

The face brushes are the ones that went in the bin with the exception of the foundation brush (and also the flat concealer style brush and fluffy eyeshadow brush in this pic are fabulous, they stayed!). All of the powder/ blush brushes are horrendously scratchy and shed. They were uncomfortable to use so in the bin they went. The foundation brush is a little thin and you have to be careful about streaks but in a pinch it does the job just fine.

Then there are a myriad of flat, synthetic concealer style brushes in slightly different sizes and shapes. I have never been short of a concealer brush since buying these! They also work great with cream eye products. There are several thinner pointed brushes that work well as lip brushes and one actual lip brush that has a lid so it’s perfect for travelling. I have had no shedding from the synthetic brushes. Ok so there are 2 sponge tip applicators which I will never use. I won’t knock them as I know some people love them, in fact these will go to my mum who swears by them. They just aren’t for me. The inclusion of an eye brow/ lash comb and a spoolie is also welcome. The fact that there is only one fluffy eye brush is a bit of a letdown but still, it’s better than nothing!

The brushes have very light weight wooden handles and black ferrules which actually look quite nice. I’ve been using these for about 3 months and so far none have come loose.

I’m not saying these brushes are incredible, they aren’t, some are downright nasty but most are good little work horses that haven’t let me down. And realistically for the price I couldn’t be happier. If you want super luxurious brushes you’re going to have to pay a premium but if you already have decent brushes and just need some backups for in a pinch you could do worse. Just be prepared to throw a fair chunk of them out…  x
