Pitera Essence Set – SK-II review

SK-II Pitera Essence Kit review :

I’m really excited to show you the next installment in my Skincare Series. I’ve been using SK-II’s Facial Treatment Essence for a month and a half now, and I’ve been amazed at the results.

It came in a pack called the SK-II Pitera Essence Kit which for me was a really good way to try their range and see how they worked before committing to a full sized product.

Even in just a couple of weeks, I’ve noticed a marked difference in my skin and if you’ve been thinking about giving it a go, let me convince you…

If you’re unfamiliar with the SK-II brand and discovery of their miracle ingredient Pitera, let me give you the abridged version. The discovery of Pitera began in a sake brewery in Japan but then again, don’t all good ideas start with sake? Someone noticed that while the elderly workers had wrinkled faces, their hands, which had constant contact with the fermented sake, looked youthful and young.

Scientists did some experimenting and to cut a long story short, they isolated an ingredient called Pitera, a liquid derived from the yeast in the fermentation process. Pitera is a blend of vitamins, minerals, organic and amino acids that work together to restore the appearance of your skin’s outer layers – it has anti-agening benefits, promotes cell renewal, and regulates sebum. The result is that you get crystal clear, glowing skin.

For me I’d been hesitant to try the SK-II range because I’d heard mixed reviews. I’d heard that if it works for you, then it’s the most amazing thing ever. But if it doesn’t then it’s very “meh” and a bit of nothing.

On that basis I was quite keen to give it a go, starting with their Facial Treatment Essence.

In the pack came a 75ml Facial Treatment Essence, which has the highest concentration of Pitera in the entire SK-II range. It claims to boost the skin’s moisture intake, smooth skin texture and renew dull looking skin. It’s not a serum, it’s not a toner, and it’s not a moisturiser – I think that’s the reason it sells so well. It will fit in quite easily into anyone’s morning and evening routine because it doesn’t replace another product. It’s unique and that’s something I wasn’t previously aware of.

I use it twice a day, by putting a few shakes of the lid into my hand (probably 2mls or so of liquid which is sometimes even too much) and then I use both hands to pat it all over my skin – face, neck and eyes.

I find it sinks in really quickly and after a minute or two I can move onto my serum.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence has completely changed my skin. In combination with the rest of my skincare regime, I’ve noticed since using it that my breakouts have almost completely disappeared, and my skin is a lot smother. The weirdest part is that I think I actually need less exfoliation after using it. I used to exfoliate 2-3 times a week and now I do it weekly just because I find my skin isn’t a rough and coarse as it used to be.

This is only after about 6 weeks and I’ve only used maybe a fifth of the bottle – it’s going to last me forever and I’ll keep repurchasing it. After all – if there’s even a chance of getting Cate Blanchett’s gorgeous skin (she’s been using SK-II exclusively for 10 years now) then I’m prepared to take it!

Also, the pack comes a Facial Treatment Mask, and small Facial Treatment Clear Lotion.

I haven’t used the Facial Treatment Mask yet because I’m saving it for a long plane trip I have coming up very soon. I don’t ever wear makeup on planes and I’ve long been a fan of cloth masks. They’re fantastic because they don’t count as a liquid (bypasses that tricksy airline rule!) and they lock the nutrients in. It’s scary to other people because you’ve got this white thing with eye, nose and mouth holes – but as long as you do it while the lights are off you’re fine. I’m really looking forward to trying this as a bit of a mid-flight treat.

I haven’t tried the Facial Treatment Clear Lotion yet either – essentially it’s a toner that you use with a cotton square before using the Facial Treatment Essence. At this stage, my skincare regime is really complicated and I’m going to see how I go.

If you’re interested in trying the SK-II range though, the Pitera Essence Kit is perfect.

Just to recap, included in the Pitera Essence Kit is a Facial Treatment Essence (75ml),  SK-II Facial Treatment Mask (1pc) and SK-II  Facial Treatment Clear Lotion (40ml).

$99 AUD from SK-II counters.
A 75ml Facial Treatment Essence on its own will set you back $100. 150ml is available for $185.

The SK-II Australia website says you can shop online at David Jones and Myer but at the time of writing,Myer’s online website didn’t have any SK-II products listed, and David Jones only had 2 items available. Disappointing.

Full Disclosure:  SK-II Pitera Essence Kit  was provided for review but as always my opinions are 100% honest.
