After admiring sample boxes from international blogs (Birchbox, Glossy Box, etc) I was eagerly waiting for the concept to launch in Australia. Here is my review of october’s beauty box !
So far I’ve signed up for three Australian boxes – Beauty Box, Bellabox and Lust Have It. Sadly, they are more expensive at $15 each compared to overseas boxes which are $10. Paying $45 each month is obviously excessive for a bunch of samples (for me anyway) so I will probably be narrowing it down to one or two boxes after I’ve worked out which ones I like the most.
I was excited when my first Beauty Box arrived in the mail this morning…
Bright pink packaging!
I like the ribbon detail, but I’m not really a fan of the logo
So what’s in the box?
CK One Shock for Her & for Him
“Edgy, sexy and impulsive. ck one shock for her is a sensual floriental fragrance and ck one shock for him is a bold oriental fragrance.”
I found this perfume to be very sweet, I can’t say that I dislike it but I don’t love it either. I sprayed my boyfriend with the male version and he said it reminded him of a particular Lynx deodorant… something that he liked back when he was 12 years old… LOL (in CK Shock’s defence, my boyfriend can be harsh and rather picky when it comes to perfume)
Garnier Body Intensive 7 days
“Intense hydration for up to 7 days. Discover ultra-soft, nourished skin with Garnier Body Intensive 7 Days. Enriched with L-Bifidus and Shea Butter to meet the needs of extra-dry skin.”
John Frieda Full Repair Full Body Shampoo & Conditioner
“A complete hair repair line with lightweight Inca Inchi oil that weightlessly repairs the look and feel of overworked hair – reviving full-bodied style with natural movement.”
Shiseido Sheer Mattifying Compact Foundation
“A creamy-type foundation that provides optimal coverage and highly translucent sheen. Helps minimise the visibility of pores and subtly covers fine lines and imperfections.”
The one sent to me is in I40 (Natural Fair Ivory) and unfortunately I can tell it’s way too dark for me 🙁
Biotherm Aquasource Moisturiser
“The source of perfectly hydrated skin! AQUASOURCE oligo-thermal-gel – intense moisturisation for normal and combination skin.”
I have to say I am disappointed by the contents of this box. I feel like it was a waste of $15. Firstly, hair and body products aren’t particularly exciting for me in general, I’d much prefer to receive makeup samples (particularly lip and cheek products). The only makeup product was the Shisheido foundation that I can tell is waaay to dark for me. The fragrance was a bit “meh” but I am excited to try out the moisturiser. If November’s Beauty Box is of the same standard, I will probably unsubscribe. Fingers crossed I’ll be happier with this month’s Bellabox and Lust Have It!
What are your thoughts on sample boxes? Will you be subscribing to any? Also I really like the outfit I wore today so I thought I’d share that with you guys quickly 🙂
