NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams review

Soft Matte Lip Creams are relatively new to the NYX lineup.  I’ve been eying them for a while and decided to try a couple when they were on sale at Ulta for $3.59 (40% off) last week.  They normally retail for $5.99 at Ulta.  I got two shades: Addis Ababa (a bright hot pink) and Istanbul (a MLBB neutral pink).

I have to say, I really like these.  I love matte lip products, but they have a reputation for drying out the lips and accentuating lip lines and chapping.  It seems like, lately, there has been an influx of new technology in the matte lip department.  The texture of these is hard to describe.  They’re incredibly light on the lips to the point that I totally forget I’m wearing them.  They don’t impart any moisture to the lips, so if your lips are already dry, you might want to start with a balm (I suggest Jack Black lip balm – it’s satin finish shouldn’t glossify the matte lip cream).  That said, they also don’t dry out the lips at all.  I think NYX said it best in their description on the packaging: “It’s not lipstick, nor is it gloss.  It’s like nothing you’ve experienced before.  It’s lipstick cream that goes on silky but looks soft matte.”

I’ve provided hand and lip swatches below.  Note that Addis Ababa is brighter than it looks in the pictures.  My camera refuses to capture the intensity of hot pink shades (I suppose this could also be related to the photographer, but let’s blame it on the camera anyway).
