My bronzers – best and worst – Glam Radar

by Maria · May 3, 2014

Summer is finally upon us and in this warmer weather I tend to skip the blusher and stick with a dusting of bronzer. A good bronzer is a must and although I have many, there are only a few that I am totally happy with and use on a regular basis. Here’s a quick roundup of the best and the worst. The Favourites – the best bronzers for me Milani Sunset Duos – 01 Sunset City This is similar to Laguna in colour, and the blush is such a pretty peachy pink that complements the bronzer perfectly. This is one of those products that actually makes me look like I’ve spent a few days in the sun, and not simply just applied bronzer. This is a classic, never looks orange and always looks natural. If I had a tan it would probably be too pale, but it’s perfect for when I’m feeling pasty. This is probably my absolute favourite bronzer. It has a slightly different tone to most bronzers – more red than orange – which makes it look natural. It also has a very slight shimmer which gives a nice effect. It’s great value at only £9.50 too. BareMinerals Warmth All-over face colour This can be a bit messy to apply, but when I can be bothered it gives a lovely warm glow to the face. You have to be careful though, it is very easy to overdo. But if you get it right, the finished effect is well worth it. I really like loose powders – I love the effect they give and am looking forward to seeing the loose powder bronzer that’s coming out in Style Warriors.  YSL Trésor d’Afrique Collector Sun Powder. This is YSL’s regular Poudre de Soleil number 2 in Summer 2009 special edition packaging. The colour is lovely and it is so finely milled that it goes on evenly and never looks patchy. It really gives me a tanned look. Today when I was in Debenhams looking at the new YSL Summer  collection I fell head over heels in love with this HUGE bronzer, the Trésor d’Afrique Collector Sun Powder. This over sized compact is made out of smooth, black wood and features a mother of pearl YSL logo. It is simply stunning, and the mirror inside is rather large which is always a bonus. Prestige Skin Loving Minerals – Glam Tan I love the fact that this is brightening and highlighting. When I use this I don’t feel the need to ever add blusher or highlighter on top. It’s a lovely colour too, never orange, and gives a more golden glow. The Not-So-Good Bobbi Brown – Medium Bronzing Powder I bought this because I love the idea of blush/bronzer duos and because it came with a free Bobbi Brown powder brush. It’s orangey and patchy and completely matte which I really don’t like in a bronzer. This is another product that is too matte. It only ever makes me look dirty. And I object to paying £25 for something that comes in a cardboard box….look how tatty it is. Never again. I bought this last year from the Neo Sci-Fi collection (mainly for the cool neon packaging) but, like its compact it is way too orange and has glittery bits in it. It is part of the permanent line, but I also think they are bringing it out with Style Warriors- beware! MAC MSF Dark Natural and Shimmer I love the idea of this product- part bronzer and part golden highlighter. I got it last year when I was in Hong Kong and it was perfect with my holiday tan. As the tan faded I continued to use it, and there are a few pictures of me wearing this that make me cringe. Totally the wrong colour for my skintone althought I do still use the highlighter which is lovely. The darker sister of Laguna, I thought this would be perfect for when I wanted to look a little more bronzed. I was wrong, it just looks orangey and is far too dark. All the ones in the top picture that I have not mentioned are just ‘ok’ in my opinion, I would not rush out and buy them again. What’s your favourite bronzer? Are there any you can recommend that I may not have tried? xxx
