MUA LIPSTICK SHADE 4 – Glam Radar

MUA lipsticks are super-hyped in the blogging community, and on paper, it’s easy to see why; they’re supposedly moisturising, pigmented and best of all, affordable, at only £1 each. Here is my review of MUA LIPSTICK SHADE 4   !

I’ve been recommended MUA in several comments now, and as it’s such a highly regarded brand, I popped into Superdrug last week to check out the fuss

I’ve been looking for a powder pink lipstick for some time now – something along the lines of MAC Saint Germain, but not as pigmented – perhaps a little bit glossy, so as not to wash me out, but still with enough colour to create a nice, 60’s inspired look that would suit a dark, smokey eye. I know that’s a tall order, and that colour probably doesn’t exist, so when I was in Superdrug and I saw the MUA stand, I thought, what is there to lose? So over I went, and to my surprise, there was this little baby, sitting proud on the sstand with a sticker that said “Only £1!” My dreams had come true and I snapped it up without swatching the tester (the MUA stand in that particular Superdrug was a bit of a mess and the testers were in no order with no shade numbers, so it was difficult to find the one that I was looking for, and on further inspection, there wasn’t a tester for it… bells should have rang, but no.)

I got this lipstick home, desperate to try it out, so without even photographing it for my blog (I know, I’ve already slapped myself for this) I tried it on. In the bullet, it’s a gorgeous baby pink shade, and it looks very promising, but as I applied the lipstick, I knew something was wrong. There was NO. COLOUR. Literally, my lips just looked the same. I swatched it on my arm, and it simply made my arm look stupidly shiny. After building up a few layers, there was a very thin wash of colour, but nothing like what I’d been promised from other blogs. Pigmented? No. Just shimmery, and who wants to look like they got their lipstick from an issue of Shout magazine?

As for moisturising, I can understand why people feel that way – since this is a glorified clear gloss, it does apply with quite a glossy finish and has a certain balmy feel to it – at first. However, after a few minutes of wear (not even hours) it stopped feeling moisturising, and started feeling greasy. And disgusting, and generally, I just wanted this off my lips.

I know I can’t really complain; it only cost £1. But still, after washing this off, I felt… kinda cheated. And you know what? It’s seriuously put me off buying anything else from MUA, which is a shame because I’m sure they must have some decent products in order to be so popular.
