Morgana Cryptoria Lip Gloss for BeautyPopShop in “Hottie Patottie”, Review & Swatches

As most people who read my blog know, I love lip products, so any time I get the chance to try a new one, I jump on it! 🙂 DJ, the owner, contacted me recently about trying one of the three new lip glosses they were going to stock in BeautyPopShop, all which were made by Morgana Cryptoria exclusively for their store. (There is also an exclusive lipstick!) I’m a fan of Morgana Cryptoria and have been friends with DJ since first getting connected via Beautylish a year ago, so I was happy to have the chance to try one out.

BeautyPopShop started with awesome nail polish racks (they can make custom ones, as well!), expanded into makeup storage, and is now beginning to stock indie nail polishes and cosmetics. It’s been growing pretty fast and I’m excited to see what the next indie cosmetics items they add will be.

The BeautyPopShop-exclusive Morgana Cryptoria lip glosses & lipstick can be found together here. The lip glosses specifically can be found here.

The lip glosses retail for $6 USD each, and you receive 0.20 floz/5.9 mL of product.

Official description:

Just because it’s a gloss doesn’t mean it has to lack pigment, at least when Morgana Cryptoria’s lip glosses are concerned 😉 Super smooth and color-drunk, you have to give these a whirl if you want some hassle-free color for your pout! And for those of you that hate sticky lip gloss you’ll be glad to know these are not–we personally don’t mind either way, but just a heads up for those of you that do.

Ingredients: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Esters, Tocopherol, Tin Oxide, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Alumina, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Silica, Fragrance (in some shades). May Contain: Iron Oxide, Manganese Violet, Blue 1, Yellow 5, Red 6, Red 7, Red 21, Red 28, Red 30, Red 33, Red 40, Orange 5

The color I was sent, “Hottie Patottie”, is described as a “vibrant, deep pink with a slight coral hue” — there is no scent or flavor to this gloss. If you look close to the tube (see photo above, and second swatch photo later in this post), you can see a very fine golden microshimmer.

There is a standard doe foot applicator which I like.

There is a possibility this gloss may feather on some people, so if you find it does feather, use a little lip liner prior to application. (I did use a nude lip liner in my lip swatch, but only on the edges of my lips.)

I found that this shade applies nearly opaque in with one dip of the brush. (In my lip swatch below I applied twice for full coverage.) It spread very easily and leaves an even layer of color. It’s not runny, goopy, or sticky — it feels very smooth on the lips. If you have dry lips, it’s best if you exfoliate prior to application as it’ll be easy to see any flakiness.

Not sure why I sized this smaller… whoops!

I liked how well this wore. After a couple hours, the shine fades away. When it wears away, it doesn’t disappear completely on me, it almost has a stain-like quality so it’s not unbearable to wear it if you don’t get a chance to reapply it right away. It held up fairly well on me for about 5 hours, with some eating and kisses in there. But, like I said, it leaves a bit of a stain on your lips so there was still some color.

I really liked this gloss (thank you again for sending it, DJ!) and it’s a great color for this summer. When I get a chance I am planning to pick up the shade “Marriage Material” — it looks like a really pretty pink. 🙂

What do you guys think? Do you like this color?
