(Merry) Christmas Nails

I know nobody is reading blogs on Christmas day, but I thought these sparkly nails were so festive; I couldn’t wait to share them with you! This design is similar to the ones I posted last week, but done in a different color.IMG_3418IMG_3421

A few of you asked for a tutorial for these nails, so here you go! Warning: the materials needed can be very difficult to find and the nail art is very labor-intensive, so set aside at least an hour if you’re attempting them.
~ Buy some confetti (try looking in craft stores. They are quite difficult to find – we chanced upon them in a market in Calcutta!)
~ Start by painting the nails. First a clear base coat, then a coat of polish. Red polish was used underneath these nails, but only clear polish was used under the silver glitzy nails.
~ Stick on the circle confetti in straight, horizontal lines. You can overlap them slightly or stick to clean lines. This step takes an hour or so, and you might need to get a friend to help you!
~ You can either leave it at that and apply top coat to seal it all off, or you can add another diamante on top for some extra sparkle. I prefer the way the nails look without the diamantes, but it’s up to you, of course!IMG_3417IMG_3420

Do you have a pet peeve when it comes to manicures? I know a few of you aren’t fond of nail art. Obviously, I love nail designs, but it can be tricky to achieve the balance between tacky and pretty. My personal pet peeve is peeling nail polish… I can’t stand it! If you don’t have time to redo your nails, I think it’s better to just remove the polish altogether. Bare nails are much more elegant and classy than unkempt nails! Unless, of course, you’re going for an altogether different look. To each her own!IMG_3423
