Mac Surf Baby Collection – Bust Out! and Good Lovin
Mac’s latest collection Surf Baby is full of surf-inspired colours and themes. The packaging has a retro surf culture feel and there are plenty of gorgeous brights and shimmering neutrals for you to choose from. As this is a summer collection (to tie in with the US season) it does feel a little strange given our current temperature here (I went out yesterday and it was only 8 degrees!) but I’m not one to put my colours into seasons, if I want to wear aqua in winter then I will!
The collection is on counters now (I saw it in Myer yesterday) and has just been launched on the Mac Australia website.
First up, Bust Out! Lipstick – this is described by Mac as a ‘Dirty mid-tone violet’ which is a description that I’m sure I’ve heard before. This lipstick is a Lustre formulation (my favourite lipsticks of the Mac range) so it has a semi-sheer appearance and a subtle shine. The colour is pretty much straight-up purple on me, it has a hint of violet in the base but it’s balanced out by the slight pinkness. In complete honesty it’s not really my kind of colour, I don’t do purple lipsticks – so this will no doubt be handed off to Little Sis who loves these shades!
Good Lovin’ Lipglass – now we’re talking!! This is a gorgeous shade which Mac describes as a ‘Soft peachy pink’. What they neglect to mention is the abundance of fine, shimmering particles which make this gloss really beautiful. Wear it during the day and watch the sun (if you’re lucky enough to find any) pick up the shimmers and make them dazzle. The shade itself is more of a peachy-beige to me, with a hint of pink but it would work on a variety of skin-tones none-the-less. As always the Lipglass formulation is sticky (which I normally hate, but I love this colour so much I’m willing to make an exception. )
Both of these lip products are limited edition, so if you like the look of them get in quick! I predict that Good Lovin’ will sell out fairly quickly.
This collection is quite large and features bronzers, eye shadows, pigments and more! There are a few re-promoted shades including Strange Potion Lipglass from the Venomous Villains collection, as well as Mocha and Naturally Eccentric lipsticks. The Surf Baby lipsticks retail for $41AUD and the Lipglasses are $40AUD.
