COMPARISONS | MAC Reel Sexy lipstick
I forgot that MAC launched its Reel Sexy collection on April 5, 2012 and I had wanted the MAC Reel Sexy lipstick “reel bad”. It was sold out on the website within hours and I was devastated. But then I did research and found out that Nordstrom, Macy’s, and Dillard’s also releases the new MAC collections. Macy’s sold out on the first day but Dillard’s still had them in stock! Yay!! I haven’t actually bought anything from any new MAC collections in my 6 years of makeup experience before so this was exciting.
MAC Reel Sexy lipstick
is an orange coral, not yet tangerine but still in trend for the year. It has an amplified finish meaning it has full pigmentation and all day wear. It’s not drying but I do find that you need to prep your lips prior to application since it emphasizes any the smallest imperfections. It is chalkier than my other Amplified lipstick, MAC Vegas Volt, and does not apply as smoothly. Formulation wise, it’s below expectations but color wise – I love it! I’ll try to search for a close dupe since this sold out wayyyyy too quickly. MAC Watch Me Simmer also sold out quickly but is a close dupe to Covergirl Lip Perfection Fairytale.
Here’s my comparison with other lipsticks:
It’s very similar in color to MAC Ever Hip and Jazzed (more like Jazzed) but is an amplified and is slightly more orange. Nicka K Coral Pink and NYX Tea Rose are very similar in color to MAC Ever Hip if you’re looking for that instead.
I was afraid from the reviews and other people’s swatches that it would be too orange for my taste but it’s still very coral! It’s just more orange than most corals.
Sorry for the sleepy eyes in this picture…it’s quite difficult taking face shots with a heavy DSLR.
In these pictures, MAC Reel Sexy looks like a coral pink but it shows up more coral in real life. I don’t know why but it looks different in Photoshop before I save the file.. =/ It definitely looks more like the color in the tube when applied to the lips.
