Liz Earle Skincare Haul – Glam Radar

by Ms. Wedgie · June 7, 2015

Hands up if you’re still in Winter hibernation mode!?  The mornings are getting lighter, but I’m still struggling to shift my butt out of bed in the morning.  Unless there are glorious rays of sunshine.

streaming through my bedroom window then I’d much rather stick with my old mate ‘duvet’ thank you very much.  The Energising range of goodies from Liz Earle is designed to give duvet loving lazybones like me that much needed morning kick start.  Using the magical mystic powers of essential oils, the range claims to ‘give skin and spirits a boost’.  The question is, can it invigorate even the sleepiest and grumpiest of bloggers?

The four products I was sent to try were: The Energising Body Wash – 200ml (£11.00) Energising Body Scrub – 200ml (£12.75) Energising Body Lotion – 150ml (£16.50)

Natural Bristle Body Brush (£7.40)

First off we’ll start with the body brush.  I have never tried ‘dry body brushing’ before and to be honest I was a little unsure about what the whole thing involved!  Brush my hair, yes.  Brush my teeth, yes.  Brush my body…HUH????  I have since learned that it involves lightly brushing your whole body to help improve circulation and to achieve softer and smoother skin.

Having never used a body brush before I found the whole process very strange at first.  The bristles felt quite stiff and scratchy, but after using it for a few days I found that I got used to it quite quickly.  The advice is that you use it once a day and preferably in the morning, but I’ll admit that I slipped out of this habit quite quickly.  If you’ve got time to add an extra step to your daily ‘maintenance’ routine then great, but if you already struggle for time then this might be a step you’d want to skip.  I do like the feeling you get after a good ole brush, but I tend to use it a couple of times a week rather than every day.

Next we’ve got the Energising Body Wash, which is a gentle gel cleanser that contains a blend of damask rose flower water and pure essential oils. liz-earle-body-wash-360x500-1 The consistency is pretty good (not too thick and not too thin) and while it doesn’t foam up a great deal, a little does go a long way and will leave you feeling squeaky clean.  The smell is definitely very energising and invigorating, but for me it’s just a little bit too strong.  That said though, the other half loves the stuff and has nearly polished off the whole bottle.  He usually hates anything I put in the shower (Lush’s Snow Fairy being his number one most hated scent) but he’s been using this every morning for a couple of weeks now.  This is most definitely a thumbs up from the bloke! liz-earle-body-wash-2-500x383-1 Next up is the Energising Body Scrub, which contains a very similar blend of essential oils to the body wash, with the addition of ground olive stones to help scrub away your nasty bits of dry skin. Now this stuff I instantly loved.  It’s not one of those harsh grainy scrubs and the texture is like honey rather than being thick and lumpy.  It applies very much like a shower gel and is really easy to spread over your body.  It rinses away quickly and, best of all, it doesn’t leave that icky layer of residue that you often get after using a body scrub.  Before trying this I’d never actually regularly used a body scrub in the morning – they were either too wishy washy with virtually no ‘scrubbing’ action or were too thick and time consuming to apply and rinse away.  I still tend to use an instense scrub once a week, but this has now become one of my new everyday favourites. liz-earle-body-scrub-2-500x375-1 Last but not least is the Energising Body Lotion, which is the latest product to join the range and was released late last year. liz-earle-body-lotion-347x500-1 The contains a whopping 19 botanical ingredients and while it does have a noticeable smell, it is neither overpowering nor does it linger around for a long time.  It has a very light, airy consistency which sinks into the skin really quickly and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth.  In fact, I was actually really surprised (and impressed) at just how quickly it did absorb.  I very often skip moisturising in the morning because I can never be bothered to wait around for it to absorb into my skin and there’s nothing I hate more than my clothes sticking to my skin.  I’m now managing to moisturise every morning now…well…apart from maybe the odd very lazy morning where I cling to my duvet for as long as humanly possible! liz-earle-body-lotion-2-500x390-1 So did this range leave me feeling invigorated?  I’d have to say yes…although I’d still advise you not get too close to me first thing in the morning because I still have a tendency to be rather sleepy and grumpy! If I was going to recommend anything from this range it would definitely be the body scrub and the moisturiser.  The scrub is easy to apply and quickly rinses away, and the moisturiser is light, absorbs very fast and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth. Do you have any time-saving favourites that make your morning routine lightening fast?
