Okay, glamour isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind when a woman thinks of cancer. Faced with the physical and mental symptoms of living with a cancer diagnosis, many women let the concept of fashion and beauty slide to the bottom of their priority list. However, adding little pampering touches to your daily routine can help you feel beautiful when you need it most.

Aside from making you look gorgeous, makeup can have an important positive psychological effect.  There is lots of evidence that a positive mental attitude can aid in the battle against cancer. Many doctors who work with patients affected by cancers, such as mesothelioma cancer due to asbestos exposure, have noted that paying attention to personal grooming can boost the outlook of someone battling the disease.

Fun, feminine makeup can be an escape from the fear and apprehension that comes along with a cancer diagnosis. Even if you have never considered yourself much of a “girly” type before, getting into makeup can bring some color into your world. Something as simple as pink lip gloss can brighten your overall appearance and provide a real confidence boost. If you are undergoing strenuous cancer treatment or have been losing sleep due to worry, makeup can be an important tool in keeping up a healthy glow. It can be especially helpful to dab a lightly tinted concealer beneath your eyes and apply a light rosy blush to the apples of your cheeks. There are a number of organic makeup products available, which will actually soothe and protect your skin. Cosmetics, which use organicmineral pigments and organic plant extracts, can naturally protect and filter your skin from damaging sun exposure.

The goal of wearing makeup is not the hide the fact that you have cancer, or cover up the physical symptoms, but rather to help you feel comfortable and vibrant in your own skin. By pampering yourself, you are letting your inner beauty shine outward and showing the world that caner has not gotten the best of you.
