Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15 review – Glam Radar

by Maria · April 4, 2014

For very sheer coverage or to set any foundation, I apply the powder with a soft, fluffy powder brush.  When using it as a medium coverage foundation, I like to use a smaller, more dense brush to apply (such as the Real Techniques Buffing Brush).  I like using this over my concealer. It also wears very well over a primer, although it is not necessary. When I’m feeling really lazy (which is most days…ha!) I can even use it with a small brush over blemishes to conceal. If you would like to know the official stats and claims of this foundation please visit the Laura Mercier website. Don’t you hate loose powders?  I know I do.  To ease the pain, the wonderful people at Laura Mercier have generously provided a fantastic separator that you can open and close to release the product as you need it. Nothing worse that a loose powder with an open sifter…I certainly don’t want to be dealing with that in my makeup bag! The large cap is perfect for swirling your brush to distribute the product evenly.

This foundation gives sheer to moderate coverage with a natural, luminous finish. When swatched heavily, you can see a few microscopic shimmer particles, but never have I looked at myself in any type of light and thought that I looked like a disco ball .  It is not “powdery” at all…this is an extremely creamy formula and melts into the skin beautifully.  It just looks so darn natural!!!

Heavy Swatch of Laura Mercier Mineral Powder.  Please disregard the colour mis-match…I am playing around with self tanners at the moment.

Wear time is excellent.  On me, it looks perfect from morning, ’til night (I have combination skin).  I would say it looks its absolute best a couple hours after application (once it has had time to settle, and some natural oils have come into contact with it.)

I feel like this foundation would work for those with dry to combination-oily skin types.  Those with very oily skin might not get as much wear time out of this and might find the “glow” might translate to “grease”.

Those with dry skin should not be afraid of this powder as I mentioned before, it’s not “powdery”.

I have the colour Natural Beige.  This colour is quite neutral, but leans slightly yellow, which is better for me.  All in all, a perfect match for when I have a slight tan.

Laura Mercier Mineral Powder photographed in natural sunlight directly after application.  Please keep in mind that the only two Makeup Products that I have on in this photo are the Powder and some mascara.  I did not apply concealer or any face colour products.

It always annoys the hell out of me when I am researching a potential new foundations and absolutely no one comments about how the foundation photographs.  Depending on what I want to use the foundation for, this can sometimes be a deal breaker.

For me, this is the one downside to this foundation:  As with all mineral foundations, it photographs horribly in flash photography…and when I say horrible, I mean, the worst white-face culprit of all!  I have learned my lesson and always keep another foundation on hand for when I know a few flashy snapshots are going to be taken.  If it weren’t for this fact, this might be the only foundation I ever need!

Laura Mercier Mineral Powder in flash photos…not pretty.
