Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Cotton Review | Glam Radar

When my ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer finally bit the dust I was in the market for a new non shimmery eyeshadow base. Given that the ELF primer is a mere £3.50 this is totally the other end of the spectrum at a whopping £20.50 (for 5.1g). The doe foot applicator is similar but the similarities end there. Here is my review of Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Cotton !

The packaging feels substantial and weighty. I like the fact that you can see how much is left rather than the stupid Urban Decay genie bottle packaging. The Eye Basics come in several skin toned shades (and a blue one just for randomness) and you must make sure you get matched to the right shade. The girl initially tried to sell me Linen which looked incredibly pink. Cotton is actually a touch too light for me but give it another month of little to no daylight and it will match just fine. The colour is important as this does have a concealing effect on the lid, it’s not opaque but it does go quite some way to concealing redness and veins on the lid.

The formula feels a little dry. It’s very strange, much less creamy than the ELF or Urban Decay versions. Once it’s on and it has set neither it nor anything that you put on top of it are going anywhere. It does a great job of grabbing shadow. It can take a smidgen extra work to blend over it but the end result will stay put.

I like this, it does work. I just don’t love it. The price just feels a touch too steep for something that other brands have done cheaper. I would say that it lasts longer on me than the ELF primer or UDPP but the price is the slightly grabby texture affecting blending. What eyeshadow base do you swear by? X
