Craft Storage Tips – Glam Radar

by Maria · June 13, 2014

Today I have a little money saving tip for those of you just starting out in the world of paper craft.

I know that once you’ve bought all your materials and equipment it can be tempting to buy in to a fancy storage system of some sort, be that stackable plastic boxes or something more sophisticated such as wheeled storage units. In reality you can hold off on spending yet more money until your collection grows bigger by trying out some of my FREE storage suggestions. My first suggestion is to wash out and keep old jars. I love keeping all my little embellishments in jars on my craft desk. It looks really cute and is also practical because you can easily find what you’re looking for. I like to keep a variety of sizes from larger pasta sauce jars to small jam jars and personally I prefer a “rough around the edges look” so I peel off the labels in a half hearted manner!

If you prefer a cleaner look then you can completely remove the labels, which might involve having to scrub at them a bit with a scouring pad! You can then cover the lids with some pretty fabric and tie a ribbon round them for a 1950’s kitsch feel.My next suggestion is to make use of those sweetie tins that we are all left with after the festive period. I use a Quality Street to store envelopes and A6 card blanks. It keeps them clean and flat and is the ideal temporary storage solution. craft-storage-tips1 My third suggestion is that you make use of old food tubs. Right now I’m using an ice cream tub to store lengths of ribbon and lace. If you need to you can then label these so that you know whats inside. craft-storage-tips2 My final suggestion is to use your imagination! Once I started looking around my home for potential craft supply vessels I surprised myself with what I found. My absolute favourite find was a tea tin which used to house Twinnings Royal Wedding Commemorative Blend Teabags and was too pretty to throw away. I hadn’t found a practical use for it until I decided to start storing my stamps in it! craft-storage-tips3 craft-storage-tips4 I’m sure that if you had a good look around your home you would also find plenty of inspiring and completely FREE storage ideas.
