COMPARISON REVIEW: Maybelline Colossal vs. Colossal Cat Eyes Mascara

When I first heard about the Cat Eyes Mascara, I bought it straight away. I’ve tried and own the original Colossal and I thought it was a pretty good mascara! So, what’s the difference between them both and which one, of the two, should you buy?

It’s a blog first…here’s my right eye! I always seem to post my left eye! Ta-da!
Maybelline The Colossal
Okay, so the first thing I have to say about this – it’s supposed to be a volume mascara. “Instant dramatic volume! Up to 7X the volume in just one coat!” – Maybelline. So, I’m sure most people who have tried this product are gonna disagree with the statement – it doesn’t give you 7x volume, which is why the words ‘up to’ are key. I disagree with the ‘volume’ mascara, I think it could be classed as a lengthening mascara, rather than volume!
The wand of the Colossal is quite fat and chunky, but it’s not ‘too’ big and it does a really good job. I can’t stand the pointy hard wands, I think they hurt! Especially in the Maybelline One by One!
No Mascara (Left) VS. Maybelline Colossal (Right)
There is quite a difference between them both (though the picture on the right is zoomed in a little bit more!) and I like how the Colossal separates the lashes rather than making them all clumpy! In fact, I’ve never noticed this mascara give any clumps! Woo! It does really good length and I LOVE this mascara! If you haven’t tried it, then you should!
Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes

We have another quote from Maybelline about the product, “A fierce look with up to 7X more volume” – this time, we don’t have ‘in just one coat’ – so how many coats do we need to apply to get the 7x more volume?

The CCE does give some volume and length, but what would make it PERFECT is if it separated the lashes a bit more, like the Colossal did. It does quite well holding the curl of lashes, it’s just the separation it needs! Saying that, you can manually separate them with an old wand, or whatever you want to use (I’m a bit too lazy to do that!) I still think it is a good mascara though 🙂

All in all, I think they’re both pretty good mascaras! They’re not that expensive either, at the moment it’s £7.19 for the Colossal and £7.99 for the CCE c/o Boots. Oh, and the Colossal is £6 at ASDA at the moment, but they don’t sell the CCE.
