Charismatic Power Powders : Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder  no 10  and Rimmel Stay Matte long lasting  pressed powder Review :

Oh hi blog, long time no speak! Don’t worry I never forgot you, I’ve just had a lot going on, what with the big move to London and the whole new career thing. You were always on my mind though, I promise – I even have the ridiculously long ‘blog ideas’ lists on my phone to prove it!

Anyway, without further ado back to the blogging, and at top of the list to talk about are two products I literally WOULDN’T be able to live without now that I’m a fully fledged career gal.

My annoyingly oily skin is no secret, I yap on about it all of the time – apart from eye or lip products it effects every choice I make regarding my make-up. I usually have to stay well clear of anything with the words illuminating/glossy/creamy/ light reflecting etc in the title (boo). You see, I make my own shine which means that me and all things matte, especially setting powders are very good friends indeed.Since starting the new job almost a month ago, it soon became clear however, that my usual powders just weren’t going to cut it (melting face was not a good look!!) so I went on the hunt for some super strength shine busters and came home with four to test.

For a fair trial they each spent a week in the office sat on top of my beloved Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24hr foundation in an attempt to make it last ALL day long. While a few failed miserably, two however impressed me so much they haven’t left my face since!

First up…

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder

I know, I know the title of this powder completely contradicts what I said above about avoiding all things glowy, but after reading so many rave reviews of Chanel’s new sell out powder I couldn’t resist trying it for myself.

The description to be honest is a little misleading anyway, while the ultra finely milled powder DOESN’T have a hint of chalkiness or cakeiness associated with most matte finishing powders, it also DOESN’T have the kind of sheen associated with most ‘healthy glow’ powders either.

It is somewhat of an enigma and like nothing I’ve ever tried before.

Key points:

  • SPF 15/ PA++ – sun protection yay!
  • The formula is weightless and blends without a trace on the skin
  • Coverage is very light, almost invisible which gives a the skin a beautiful flawless yet fresh look
  • A light dusting refines visible pores and perfects the skins surface but without being heavy
  • The finish is matte but not flat and leaves an almost soft focus effect which is simply stunning!
  • Long(ish) lasting, would last all day long on normal skin types. A few touch ups needed on oily skin but in essence suits all skin types!
  • Smells incredible.
  • Costs almost 40 quid! Eeek, its skin perfecting properties are worth every penny though simple-smile-2-5

Even though Les Beiges may not be the strongest setting powder on the block in regards to keeping the shine at bay all day long, I don’t begrudge a few essential touch ups because the finish of it is just so amazing.

Finding a finishing powder that not only looks like skin, but perfect skin, is a very rare thing indeed!

Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder

The second power powder stopping my base from sliding off my face is on a whole different level to the Chanel. If you’re looking for added coverage and a much more intense finishing powder then Rimmel’s Stay Matte can’t be beaten.

 Key points:

  • The consistency is as soft as any high end finishing powder I’ve ever tried making it effortless to apply with both a brush or a sponge
  • Offers a tad more coverage than the Chanel so it’s great if you need just that bit extra or are wearing a lighter foundation/tinted moisturiser
  • The finish ISN’T invisible as it is heavier, but it’s NOT cakey either
  • Helps to hide pores and flaws
  • As the name suggests, it is pretty matte in finish which is slightly less natural on the skin
  • Keeps the oil at bay really well throughout the day, only one blot/touch up usually needed.
  • Costs under £4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why I put off buying this bargain shine buster for so long I don’t know – aside from the terrible packaging everything else about it is amazing, especially for those of us with mega oily skin!

Over the past few weeks I’ve found myself stuffing both of these setting powders in to my makeup bag – Rimmel for the lazy days when touching up just isn’t an option and Chanel for when it’s all about the flawless finish.
