Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant Review – Glam Radar

As mentioned in previous posts I am a bit of a scrub addict. I love to exfoliate my skin and, having very dry skin, I’m prone to flakey patches in winter which need a little TLC. Generally, I prefer manual scrubs (the ones with the ‘gritty’ pieces in them) but I recently received the Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliantto review, which is a different type of exfoliant entirely.

AHAs, or Alpha Hydroxy Acids, have become somewhat of a buzzword in skin care over the last few years. Not just restricted to salon-grade chemical peels, you can now experience a little AHA love in your own home. The Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant uses naturally sourced papaya and pineapple fruit enzymes to exfoliate the skin and lift dead cells for a smooth finish. As this is an AHA-based exfoliant there are no ‘bits’ in it, the Gentle Daily Exfoliant is actually a dry, loose powder that has a chalky feel to it. The chalkiness comes from a white clay ingredient which aids the powder to form a paste-like consistency when water is applied.alpha-h-gentle-daily-exfoliant

So, how do you use Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant?

With the lid open, tip the container upside-down and you will receive a measured amount of product. The Alpha-H website suggests using approximately one teaspoon amount, which I have found would close to two ‘pours’ of the powder. Simply add enough water to create a paste and massage gently into the skin, rinse with water to finish.alpha-h-gentle-daily-exfoliant-review

Sounds pretty simple, right? I had some issues at first where I couldn’t seem to feel any thing from the exfoliant, I worked out that I was using too much water and diluting the product. After re-adjusting my measurements I found that the product spread over my face and actually began to make a difference. If you can see a chalky white film on the face whilst using this product, then you’re doing it right – if you can’t see any whiteness from the product then you’re probably using too much water.alpha-h-gentle-daily-exfoliant-1

Verdict?

This is the tough part, I don’t really know if I like it enough to continue using it in the future. I’ll finish the bottle I have but I honnestly cannot say whether I like it enough to go and buy it with my own money in the future. On one hand my skin does feel smooth after use and after I figured out the correct measurements I found it easy to use.

On the other hand I feel that it’s too gentle to really give me a deep clean, I think for mild dryness or flakiness it might do the trick but I really like something a little more heavy duty. Perhaps in conjunction with a once a week deep exfoliation it might make for a good routine.

I hate to leave you all with such an indecisive review, but honestly…that’s how I feel about it.

However, for those with very sensitive skin that find manual scrubs too abrasive this  would be a great option! Also, if you’re looking for a product that will give a gentle buff rather than a deep cleansing scrub, then the Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant is worth checking out. It retails for $59.95 on the Alpha-H website.
